''What the hell is that?!'' Cree gasped as she and the others looked out over the steaming monstrosity that seemed to have erupted from the ground before them.
''It's a titan, but unlike any I've ever seen before.'' Erwin answered her as they all looked on in terrified awe as it slid over the ground away from them and in the direction of Orvud district.
''What now, sir?'' One of the soldiers asked Erwin.
''We advance!'' He answered boldly, fearlessly. And so they did.
Cree had begged him to remain back in the capital and let her and Ruth tend to his healing wounds. Despite the quick fading of the bruising and swelling around his eye, his ribs were still in terrible shape and he was in no condition to ride. But he had refused, telling her there was no one else to lead his soldiers. She had no argument against that and so she hadn't been able to force herself to hold him back or try to stop him.
Instead she had told him she would ride out with them, seeing as they would still be within the Walls, she hadn't expected to encounter a titan at all, yet here they were now, overlooking the largest titan in history. As it continued making its way towards Orvud, billowing stacks of smoke and steam. The sheer intensity of the heat it omitted was enough to ignite trees as it passed by.
Inside the cavern, Mikasa and Jean had freed Eren from his hardened titan form, and it hadn't disappeared.
''Nice work, Eren.'' Levi complimented him. ''You saved all our lives.''
''Not all.'' Eren lamented as tears started to fall from his eyes as he thought of Morgen. The chances she had survived were minimal and they all knew it, even if they didn't want to admit or accept it.
''We don't know that she's dead. We should start looking for her!'' Mikasa cried out, her own eyes glistening with tears as she knelt next to Eren.
''First we need to find a way out of here.'' Levi interjected. He understood Mikasa, more than he cared to admit, but he was also much more realistic. The chances of Morgen surviving that stab were slim at best, add to it the collapsing cave and they would be lucky to even find her body.
Morgen was dead, they would all have to accept that eventually, himself included.
But now wasn't the time for emotions and especially grief, they needed to find a way out of there.
''Sasha, you have the most gas left, climb up and see if you can find a way out of here. Whoever else has a decent amount of fuel remaining go with her.'' Levi ordered and then Connie took off with Sasha as they worked around the ceiling above them looking for a way out.
A few minutes passed, and eventually Sasha and Connie returned, having not only managed to procure an exit but they had also found Armin. He told them Moblit was with Hange and they were all ok. When Sasha and Connie returned and reported back to Levi, he immediately ordered them all to file out and follow Sasha.
Once they all managed to reach the surface, they were happy to see Armin and the others, however that brief happiness was gone as they looked out at the devastation all around them and the flaming mound of titan crawling it's way towards Sina. Their hearts sank even further as they looked out over the canyon of destruction left in its wake.
''No way...'' Connie gasped as he took in the damage. ''Morgen...''
''She couldn't have survived that...even without injuries...'' Sasha spoke up as tears began to fall from both of their eyes.
Jean was the only one who spoke up against what they all feared, including himself.
''No. She's not dead til we find her body. This is Morgen we're talking about!'' He shouted, trying to find the strength to believe his own words. ''She can't be...'' His voice failed him as his own eyes began to burn with tears.
