Just before sunset, the Scouts were lining up on the Wall of Trost. The lifts had been set up to allow their horses, wagons and supplies to all be hoisted up and over so they could travel from Trost instead of having to travel from Calaneth again.
Cree stood atop the Wall with the other medics as she ensured they all had plenty of supplies, especially wrappings and ointment. She also went to each individual soldier and handed them all a special pouch filled with extra wrappings, a small container of alcohol flush, another of ointment and a small leather wrap around needle and thread.
Back at HQ, Erwin, Hange and Levi along with Dirk, Marleene and Klaus were all saluting a final farewell to Premier Zachary as well as Commander Pyxis and even Nile as well as a few other military brass who had all arrived that morning to see their heroes off.
The Scout leaders then left and were the last ones to join their troops atop the Wall. As Levi and Hange were being lifted, they heard a familiar voice calling out to them from the streets below.
Flagel Reeves shouted out to Hange, wishing them all good luck. They noticed a gathering crowd below and once Flegel had finished the rest of the crowd seemed to join in as cheers echoed around them. Cheers of good luck, praises of bravery and wishes for the successful retaking of Wall Maria were shouted up at them from below.
The crowd continued to grow as the people wished them well and continued cheering for them all. Levi walked up between Hange and Erwin and looked down at the gathered crowd. So much for keeping the operation on the down low.
''Someone's got a big mouth.'' He scoffed.
''Yeah, well.'' Hange sighed beside him. ''That celebration did get a little rowdy.''
''We did get everything from Flagel.'' Cree said as she walked over to join them.
She and Ruth were the only civilians allowed among the gathered troops. ''I told you they would figure it out.'' She grinned. In truth she was happy to see so many people finally supporting the brave men and women of the Scouts. This support is what they had deserved all along and it was well earned indeed.
''YEAH! You can count on us!'' Shouted Jean, Sasha, and Connie from where they stood a few paces to the right of Hange and the other leaders.
''You guys are too much.'' Morgen smiled beside them at their enthusiastic antics.
''I wonder how long it's been since the Scouts got a send off like this?'' Klause asked as he turned to Dirk.
''I dunno. I'm not sure if we ever have.'' Dirk replied.
''Well,'' Erwin began with a smile on his face. ''As far as I'm aware, at least, this is a first,'' He said before grinning widely as he raised his one hand and yelled out a victorious roar.
Immediately the crowd below replied to Erwin's roar, as they echoed their own glorious uproar back at him. He roared again in triumph as Levi looked over at him completely dumbfounded. He had never seen Erwin like this. To say such a reaction caught him by surprise, was putting it mildly.
The commander then drew his sword and turned to face the open lands of Maria before them as he shouted once more.
''The Operation to retake Wall Maria begins now!'' His passionate baritone boomed out around them and each and every person there could feel their own fire ignited by Erwin's flame.
The soldiers joined him in cheering before they all began the descent on the lifts.
Cree ran over to Morgen and hugged her goodbye.
''Try to come home in one piece this time, ok?'' Cree teased as she tried to quell her own worries for her daughter. She was proud to see Morgen beam back up at her with an assured smile, her confidence finally returned to its full strength.
