Chapter 10
Augustus' POV
"You think they'll work with us?" Amari questioned as we packed up to leave. I wanted to get out early. I've been wanting to leave early everyday.
"I've been talking with Jake. The peacemaker pack is undergoing new order. We won't know till fall." I told him. Althea was unreachable at camp. Jake and Arlo have been my main source of contact. But with these camps growing, I needed help. I wasn't afraid to admit that. And we shared a common ground when it came to peace and order. One thing Romero didn't want, his only goal was separation from vampires and control of the witch race. The only other race that had power comparable.
"Let's hope she wolf pulls through." Amari sighed before leaving. I didn't doubt Althea would side with me. A war isn't something she would want. Especially her first year as Alpha.
"Date night tonight?" Ryuu smirked. I ignored the comment while leaving the boardroom.
"Oh don't think we didn't hear. What was it? Checkers and music?" He pestered. I chuckled.
"Chess." I corrected him. He made a fruity face.
"Sounds romantic." He smirked before finally leaving.
"King Vercelis?" Delilah spoke up. I gave her my attention as I locked up my office.
"I'd love to offer you a drink." She spoke sweetly, pulling her dark hair to the side. I strode to her desk, eyeing her closely.
"You're lucky you still have a job. And you think I want to drink from the same person that disrespects her Queen?" I questioned her. She put her head down submissively, embarrassed she even offered.
"I apologize." She whispered.
"I will see you Monday Delilah." I spoke harshly before leaving.

Tilly's POV
It was less hot today. I wasn't beaming sweat as I trekked the forest to the wall. I spent an hour here, thinning spaces covered with greenery. I've built up enough trust that not every move I made was being watched, and I took advantage of this lovely afternoon.
I leaned against the stone wall, catching my breath from my draining power. I dug into my pocket and pulled out my mint, popping the disgusting thing in my mouth. I shut my eyes as the whistle of air filled my head.
"Little Lu." His voice was chipper, he was in a good mood.
"I'm growing closer with Augustus. I'm hoping tonight he'll open up." I got straight to the point.
"Good. Tell me what you have so far."
"He has this smoke, it's like a mental cloud that can force things for him. He doesn't use it often." I explained.
"Yes, I've seen it. His demon manifests on command. But it's not physical, it can't be fought." He sighed.
"He admitted to wielding fire as well. But that power wears him out." I added.
"Interesting." He seemed intrigued by that new information.
"He won't tell me what his greatest power is. But he did say that it's a weakness. I plan on questioning him further tonight." I sat to the forest floor, my legs suddenly getting tired.
"That's good Lu. You're doing really good. Did he mention how he got the Demon?" He pushed further. A part of me wanted him to ask about me, how I was fairing, if I was being treated well. But it wasn't his main priority. Not yet.
