What if crush or your original character had an incident happen to them that put them in the hospital? This causes them to lose their memory. It's up to your OC/their love interest to help repair their memory by spending time with them.
Honestly, I would find this REALLY interesting, if the oc and crush had an enemies/rival dynamic, and of course after the accident, they don't remember that dynamic, so it could be them turning a new leaf.
