Back in the old days – a year ago – life followed a pattern.

For a start, we could choose our careers.

We could choose what to do with our days.

And, for most of us, we could just open our fridge if we were hungry.

We didn't have to fight for our food.

No one seems to have escaped this new world order.

The old patterns are being broken for everyone.

A year ago, at least here in Australia, grandmas and grandpas could enjoy some down time when they retired and look forward to crossing some things off their bucket lists. They were also a reliable source of a home-cooked meal. I so miss my grandpa's home baked bread and my grandma's chunky vegetable soup.

Now they're back out working again.

And we're no longer just school students, being given the chance to study, put off growing up, with few responsibilities.

We're an essential cog in the wheel for work which is back-breaking, mind-numbing and essential.

It's like the world has done a big lazy U-turn and everything has shifted with it.
