Miss Love

The engine revered and I wanted to run to stop her. Mend our broken relation. Whatever it was between us, it was my life's most honest association. But I let her go. I didn't even attempt to stop her. I saw her from the window of my room searching for someone. Probably it was me.

I didn't know what was God's plan. The boat didn't start and Al got down. Was it his sign? But what sign? I wasn't in love with her. She wasn't either. In moments of lust and amour, you feel things and those reflect in your eyes. That is not love. I skipped the stairs to reach down and see Al.

Our eyes met after what seemed like a whole lifetime. "I thought you would at least come to see me off," Al said with hope in her tone and hurt in her eyes.

Guilt engulfed me but I wanted to engulf her in my arms and never let her go.

"The boatman is sixty years old, at least spare him Albeli. Did you strike a deal with him too against your body? To lie that the boat isn't working?"

"Enough!" I shouted at Genna's cheap remark and everyone was silent. "Genna, just refrain yourself from commenting so below the belt."
I knew Tia would not like me standing up for Al but I had to. I would have for any girl. I walked away from there and so did Al. She sat on the sand with her luggage waiting for the boat to get repaired. She didn't have dinner last night and what she had to go through for a plate of breakfast, pained my heart.

I didn't care about anything and dropped my favourite chocolate on Al's lap and ordered her, "Eat. I don't want my employee to die of hunger." She didn't argue and ate the chocolate so quickly that I wished I had another bar to give to her.

"Kenny, if you are done with charity, come." Tia tugged her arm in mine but I removed her hand immediately. It was time I sorted the matter. I couldn't see Al defeated. I wanted her to win.

"Tia we were on a break and what I did during that time shouldn't bother you. Did I question you what you were doing? I felt attracted towards her and proposed to her to sleep with me. Not the other way round. Yes, I felt she tried to trick me when she declined to have sex with me but I wanted to do it so desperately. Still do." Fuck! Did I say that? Al was sitting quietly listening to me explaining to my "supposed" girlfriend my plan. I told Tia everything that happened between Al and me.

She heard me patiently before throwing the grenade. "Then why did you tell your manager that you have of an amazing idea for a script about a girl who meets her dream star, at a job she was not fated to do?" Tia unlocked her phone and played the conversation between Al and me on the boat ride.

How did she even get it? I recorded it but never shared it with anyone. We were in one room and she knew the passcode of my phone. Damn! Women would make the best detectives.

I looked at Al and she was already looking at me. I betrayed her. She picked her bag as the engine made a loud sound indicating it was ready to go. I ran behind her and caught her by her arm. "Al, listen to me, please." I pleaded and she stopped.
I took a deep breath before clarifying myself. "Al, the way we met and whatever happened between us was no less than a movie plot. I was fed up with doing action films and desperately wanted to do a rom-com kinda flick. The day you stormed my Insta live feed, I discussed with my manager if it was possible to develop it into a movie. Your relationship with your grandparents and Genna made me more intrigued and I jot down details. On our boat ride, you revealed a part of yourself and I recorded it on my phone so that I don't miss the details."
I was facing Al's back. It was better because I couldn't face her. "Al, I ditched the idea of the movie thing the moment my lips touched yours. You were so pure and honest with me. I realised what I was doing was so wrong. Using someone's misery for your benefit is not me, please trust me, Al. I was angry and wanted to punish you but I would have never used your story, our story, for entertainment."
