casino royale ;; gambler!kai au

i've already went off about this on tumblr once before, but here it is on wattpad and some trivia based around it

as usual, feel free to draw fanart/write stories/whatever you want, just please credit me and don't claim that you made it lol

to make a long story short, the casino!kai/gambler!kai au (or basically the 'i heavily follow the show!kai and c!quackity parallels to a tee' au), is literally what it says.

it's just kai, running a casino and doing his own thing

it's after zane's death in rebooted, right? the ninja team split up, and kai goes to join the slither pit for a bit to earn some money

however, just as soon as he ends up making enough, he's outta there and already onto his next project

finding a spot in ninjago city that's just far away enough not to be so obvious, but close enough where it's still in city limits, kai starts making his own 'country' and his casino

it's las nevadas. it's literally just las nevadas ngl (sorta kinda)

in an attempt to distract himself from feeling anything from zane's death, he throws himself into making the hotel and casino— after getting some help from some. of the less-known elemental masters

after that, the casino is basically built and that's that

eventually, whenever the ninja group (mostly) gets back together before the tournament of elements, they have to go find kai and explain shit to him

which is hard since:
a. nobody really knows where the fuck he went after leaving the slither pit (not any of the ninja, at least)
and
b. dude has worked so goddamn hard in the past year to get the casino and everything up and running. he has so much power in terms of running the casino + money. why would he go back to being a ninja?

the group eventually finds the casino and explain everything to him, and shit basically just plays out like normal (kinda)

it takes a bit of convincing for him to go away from his job and potentially close down the casino while he's away, but then he leaves it with one of his closest adversaries that isn't one of the elemental masters so it's fine lol

after that then everything plays out like normal, but once season 4 is over with, he's doing part-time being a ninja, and doing part-time running/doing his thing at his casino

and that's pretty much it, lmao

....actually, while i’m thinking about it, i’m still debating if i want corrupted!kai to happen in this au

because like, even though he’s already a bit corrupt when the ninja find him again (although, that’s more around the cynicism and power he has, if anything), i’m kinda. teetering on whether or not i feel like he’d still get corrupted by chen’s staff during the tournament of elements

on one hand, it can just take the canon route and the classic corrupted!kai scene™ happens.. which, i mean, is still possible for his character… but i can also see him *not* giving in??

like, okay, hear me out.

he’s been disillusioned by the world enough and knocked down a few pegs that he doesn’t care about jealousy anymore/doesn’t feel any jealous feelings towards lloyd. and while still power hungry to some regard, he had *that* while working at the casino. why would he need to use everyone else’s power when he just has that (the casino) to fall back on???

then the infamous scene happens. he still grabs the staff, and uses it to get lloyd free. then it kinda goes downhill.. he hears the staff trying to get into his head and corrupt him. he starts to become unnerved. is that what the staff is, just something that can give you seemingly infinite power.. but also corrupts your mind to the point where you can’t think straight??

the thought terrifies kai and he nearly drops the staff right then and there. while, yes, he does want power still.. he wants to gain it on his own accord, and doesn’t want it if it means losing a sense of his identity. he’s worked so fucking goddamn hard just to get to this point.

then he snaps out of his thoughts and shatters the staff afterwards. skylor and lloyd both notice that something is wrong, but he can’t say much besides “it’s better that i shattered that fucking staff… it’s bad, you two. allowing someone to have that amount of power.. it can just about fucking drive them insane. it drives them mad with power.. it doesn't deserve to belong to anyone.”

i've already said so much so i think i'll just leave the fun facts/facts about this au for another chapter because i don't want to make this even more crowded lol

unlike the joke-a-lot grojband au, this probably won't become its own book just for the fact that tumblr has already kissed my ass and ignored me enough on the concept itself. im not about to write a whole ass story about this just for the same thing to happen again

plus, last thing i need is to be held at gunpoint bc "holy shit they drew inspiration from the dream smp/c!quackity let's cancel them >:((" tbh
