35. Her Eyes

Damian POV

Two days, two days she had been laying here without so much as a sign that anything was happening. She looked peaceful like she was just sleeping only my usual move of waking her with a gentle kiss wasn't working.

I had stayed with her the whole time I hadn't left her side except when I needed the bathroom. I had had Dolph bring my case here and the nurses had found Mack a cot and some extra clothes so that he could stay right here with me.

Dolph had also stayed put and had helped me take care of Mack, we may not have seen eye to eye at the beginning but right now I was grateful to have him here and I could see why Zoe liked him so much.

I straighten up in my chair and rotate my neck a little trying the relieve the cramp from sleeping here.

"Maybe you should go to the hotel tonight, get a proper night's sleep in a bed" Dolph says watching me "I'll stay with her" he suggests but I shake my head

"No, I'm not leaving her" I say taking her hand in mine "I want to be here when she wakes up"

"If" he says quietly "if she wakes up"

"Don't you dare" I say snapping my head round to look at him "Don't you dare give up on her, she's going to wake up, she'll open her eyes when she's ready"

"I'm not giving up I'm just accepting the possibility" he sighs "I want her to open her eyes as much as you do"

Just then Mack lets out a loud cry and Dolph walks over to him "Hey little man, you can possibly be hungry I fed you not long.......woah I believe you're on diaper duty this morning" he says looking at me.

I walk over and gently lift my son out of his cot, I place him down onto he changing table the nurses had set up and undo his baby grow.

"Wow you had a poonami in your diaper this morning huh?" I say smiling down at him "Alright let's get you all cleaned up"

Mack looks up at me as I clean him up and replace his diaper, when I'm done I take moment to just look at him. The green eyes he got from his mother, his chubby little cheeks all the way down to his tiny little toes. He was perfect and I felt guilty that I was able to bond with him while Zoe had yet to see him properly.

"Alright my little rockstar you are good to go" I say lifting him up and holding him close to me "daddy loves you so much never forget that"

"I've been meaning to ask what is Mack short for?" Dolph asks "You've never said his full name"

"McKenzie" I smile "McKenzie Ethan" I walk over to Zoe's beside and sit down in the chair with Mack, I hold him in one arm and with the other I take hold of Zoe's hand.

"Come on mi amor, open your eyes and see our son" I plead and that's when I feel it, her fingers curl around my hand ever so slightly "Zoe? Princesa if you can hear me do that again" I say and she repeats the motion holding my hand a little tighter this time.

"I'm right here mi amor" I say "it's alright"

I watch as her eyes slowly flutter open and she looks at me, I smile at her as I gaze into the beautiful green eyes I've missed so much, and sometimes I swear they have little flecks of gold in them.

"D?" She croaks "what happened?" She asks

"You gave birth to our son and there were some complications" I say giving her hand a squeeze "You've been out for 3 days"

"I remember giving birth but then it's a blur" she croaks "where is he where's Mack?"

"He's right here" I smile and she turns her head to look at him and smiles "Neither of us have left you"

"And neither did I" Dolph says and she turns and smiles at him "Hey Zee I've missed you"

"Hey" she smiles, she makes an attempt to sit up only to hiss in pain and lay back down, she looks down at herself and a look of fear crosses her face "D what's this? What did they do to me?" She asks

"Just relax princesa" I say as I hand Mack to Dolph, turning back to her I lean over and gently kiss her forehead "there was a problem with you heart and they had to do surgery"

"My.....my heart?" She says "what's wrong with it?"

"They had to fit a stent to open your artery" I explain "You're going to be just fine, now try and relax"

"I want to hold my son" she says looking away from me and towards Dolph.

I help her to sit up and Dolph places Mack in her arms, she smiles down at him as she runs fingers over his hair.

"Hi there my precious little boy" she says kissing his forehead "mommy is here now everything is going to be alright, he's perfect, and beautiful"

"I know you've had a lot to take in but if you want to talk about it....."

"I don't" she says cutting me off without looking at me

"I love you so much" I say perching on the bed beside her

"I know" she says "I'd like to talk to Dolph alone please"
