The soft hum of the motor broke the silence in the air. Ever since Eric has gotten in the car, he hasn't said a word to me. I couldn't help but wonder, was it my fault? Was he mad at me?

I started to fidget with the ends of my fingers. I couldn't get these thoughts out of my head. What was he thinking? Did I cross boundaries?

"So. I'm your husband now?" A sly smirk tugged at the corner of his sharp lips. His eyes slightly glanced at me for a second before eying the road.

I felt a burning feeling in my chest. Why this topic?

I already felt embarrassed as it was. It wasn't my fault that he is good-looking. It was the moment that caught me off guard. Plus, it was the best idea I could think of.

"You can't blame me for the idea. Ivan is terrifying. Just the atmosphere of him gives me the creeps." I hugged my shoulders to make it seem a bit dramatic.

"I can't blame you for that. I would have done the same if I were you," he states, then makes a right onto the next street.

"When I saw him talking to you, I knew he was trouble. What did he say to you?" Eric's voice was calm and collective as he focused on driving. The roads had many obstacles in the way, like cars that collected dust and debris from not being touched.

"He was rude." I started.

"He questioned what I am. He was saying something about I have the scent of a vampire and a human."

Eric didn't say anything for a minute. It was like he knew something that I didn't.

"He's just confused. He probably had too much to drink," he explained. I couldn't tell if Ivan was drunk or not. He looked okay to me.

"What else did he say?" Why did this feel like an interrogation? I know he was a detective and everything.

Oh.

"Do you want to hear the rest? It might be hurtful." I warned. He then nodded and waited for me to explain everything else.

"He questioned why I was with you. He tried to convince me that you are a coward, to make me take sides with him." I couldn't help but feel my stomach twist. I disliked when Ivan talked bad about Eric. Eric is an honourable man. I felt like there was more to this than it seemed.

"But I know he was nothing more than a stuck-up snob. I wouldn't let him say anything bad about you, not after you've helped me all of this time." Eric suddenly took note of that.

Suddenly, a loud thump noise came from the top of the car. My eyes slowly glanced up at the ceiling, then at Eric.

Expeditiously, the driver's door tore off the car and Eric was yanked out of the car. My heart started smashing against my rib cage, and I started to panic. There was no time to think.

A yelp escaped my throat as I saw my life flash before my eyes. A jarring impact threw my body forward as the seat belt caught my body. I could feel the small shards of glass slice the sides of my face. I couldn't even move.

My body is in shock and pain at the same time. My chest felt heavy. My head thrashed with continuous motion. My body was screaming for me to move, but I couldn't.

Suddenly, the passenger side door opened. The sounds of the shattered glass made a pitter-patter sound against the concrete road. I turned my head ever so slowly to the side. My vision continued to go in and out of focus.

I was suddenly ripped out of the car and shoved against the road. I felt a hand clamp down on the back of my head. Their claws dug into the back of my skull. Excruciating pain came to my head. I felt my skull screaming in pain. My throat felt a burning sensation. Then it hit me.

A sharp pain stung the side of my neck like acid. Out of nowhere, I started to feel dizzy. My limbs started to shake uncontrollably. Something was surging through my veins. It was getting hard to breath as if my lungs started to collapse. A sense of relief washed over my head as the pressure was released off of my head. And the last person I saw was Eric.

Eric's pov

My heart skipped a beat as I felt my blood boil. My nails started to dig into my hands, drawing a bit of dark blue blood. I knew he could smell it.

I got off of the road and sprinted towards the crashed car. I knew she was still in there. Oh god, I hope she's okay. My eyes widened with shock. No. . . I was too late.

The feral vampire had already sunk his teeth into her pure skin. My chest started to burn with anger. He will pay.

I felt the flame in my chest envelope me. My eyes started to glow in anger as I shot myself at him. My nails dug into his arms as I pinned him to the sidewalk.

"You animal!!" I screamed at him. My nails extended to a longer length. I didn't care if it was inhumane to carve him up. I made one last strike to his throat, and his last breath left him. When I felt satisfied with my work, I got up and looked at Cebell's lifeless body. My eyes softened as I ran over to her.

"No, no, no, no, Cebell! Cebell, please!" I took her body into my arms. Her angelic face was carved up with small pieces of glass, and something black started to ooze from the bite on her neck. Her lips were stained like acid rain.

If I don't find help quickly, I'm going to lose her. I knew the clinic was just around the bend. I didn't care what it took, I needed to save her. Please, please, just this once, save her. I've lost everyone I held dearly, I can't lose you too!
