Emrys was currently eight years old, in the Sapphire Palace. He had his office in which he was currently doing paperwork assigned by the emperor.
The door opened to reveal, Amy, Emrys's personal maid.
"My Prince, perhaps you should go for a walk. The weather is lovely and you have been cooped into your office all morning."
"There's just a few more paperwork left, then I'll personally go and deliver it to the Emperors office." Emrys responded as his hand kept moving above the paper.
Amy bowed and left.
-----
Emrys began walking to the Garnet Palace, his personal knight , Leonardo following him while holding the pile of papers.
"Winter is coming soon. " Leonardo spoke.
"Winters are severe in the northern territory. Not to mention the already instability at the northern borders due to illegal transactions of weapons." Emrys analyzed.
"Gee, Your Highness, do you really have to look at everything from the eyes of a ruler? Can't you just admire things for once?"
"I never said I hated winter. It's my favourite season."
Leonardo sighed before staring at the little prince walking in front of him.
----
Soon they reached the Garnet Palace and Emrys made his way to the Emperors Office.
Knock
Knock
"Your Majesty, may I come in?"
No reply came from within and Emrys had no choice but to enter without permission. The room was empty.
"Should I place the papers on the desk?" Leonardo asked, to which Emrys nodded.
I wonder where the emperor went off to. . . perhaps a walk? The weather is pleasant today.
Emrys and Leonardo left the office and began making their way out of the Palace, only to bump into Felix standing outside one of the rooms.
"Greetings, Your highness" Felix bowed.
"Greetings. Where is the emperor?" Emrys eyed the room.
"Oh, he's currently talking to Princess Athanasia. Perhaps you should also go in Your highness. She is your younger sister."
Athanasia...
Emrys remembered that name. The name of the daughter of that woman.
"If his Majesty hasn't invited me then it would be rude to interrupt their time. I have placed the documents on his desk. Tell him I had something important to discuss regarding the paperwork and that he can call me when he's free." Emrys spoke before walking away.
Felix looked at him with worry, but didn't voice his concern.
----
"What did you want to discuss?" Claude asked, sitting on his chair. Cold icy eyes staring into the eight year old prince's soul.
"Regarding the School you wish to have constructed. The project is under Count Klein. I request that you change the manager of the project."
Claude's eyes narrowed.
"I've found evidence of him embezzling funds. He cannot be trusted. Instead, I would suggest that you appoint one of these people to lead this project." Emrys placed a sheet of paper on the desk.
"Then, you deal with this."
"Pardon?"
"You will be leading this project."
Wow, I'm honoured. But the look in his eyes looks like he expects me to fail and humiliate myself.
"I am honoured." Emrys bowed.
Claude then assigned him more paperwork regarding the schools construction as well as fund management.
And within a matter of minutes Emrys was now leading this whole project.
If he failed, he would be ridiculed and most likely stripped of his position as crown prince.
But if he succeeded, his position as Crown Prince will be fully secured.
Especially now that Athanasia had interacted with Claude, he had a new rival for the throne.
Claude stood up from his seat.
"You're dismissed."
Emrys bowed and left, only to see Claude leaving as well.
"Pardon me Your Majesty, but might I ask where you're heading?"
Claude ignored his question and went his own way.
----
Emrys was sitting in his office looking at the pile of paperwork and sorting them out, when Leonardo barged in.
"Your Highness! You won't believe this! "
"Keep your volume low."
"His Majesty is having tea with Princess Athanasia!"
"Hm, okay and?"
"Your Highness!"
"What, I hate tea."
"That's not the point!"
"Leo, leave. You're giving me a headache with your girlish screams."
"G-Girlish Screams!?"
"You sound like noble ladies at a tea party. Spare my ears the gossip and leave please. "
Leonardo ran out crying from the prince's words. And peace once again returned to the Prince's office.
The emperor having tea with the princess is none of my business. In the end that girl is just a pawn, who will be sold to some country for marriage. Perhaps I should select a suitable country.
Emrys thought before returning his mind to the papers at hand.
The budget for the construction and hiring of staff was more than enough. He had sent an imperial decree on behalf of the emperor, announcing Count Klein's crime of embezzling funds and twice the amount he embezzled was added to the total funds for construction.
The architectural layout as well as the location at which it was supposed to be built was something Emrys was opposed to.
It's a government authorized school. A school for commoners. A public school. Although it was meant to be built in the capital and in the noble district at that, Emrys wanted it to be built at the lesser district, where commoners are in mass.
It didn't make sense to built it in the noble district, but Count Klein had decided to build it there. And he also decided to make the building of mediocre design. Since it was a school for commoners, he didn't really try to make it all that great.
If the school was built in the noble district and was created in a sloppy design, the commoners wouldn't feel too inclined to enter the school. They would feel ashamed and uncomfortable to walk through noble streets and enter a sloppy building in the midst of lavish boutiques and restaurants.
Emrys was gonna change the whole plan and start everything from scratch once again.
