She met Jamal when they were both 16, Jamal had terminal brain cancer, he wasted his make a wish on a car despite being in a wheelchair due to his illness and not having a license, his original wish was to stay in a Family Dollar after hours overnight but they didn't allow it
Jamal was still kind of a douche as he was from a rich family and spoiled by his parents (even before the illness) and pulled the cancer card a-lot, that was the reason Connor didn't really like him
When he was given 6 months to live he told Zoe he wanted to break up so it would be easier for her when he died, which she was fine with, but the next week he had a new girlfriend, which Connor saw him in a McDonald's with and yelled at him, Jamal's excuse was "well I don't care about her the same way I care about your sister" though Zoe had cried for like 2 days after the breakup and was even more upset when she found out he got a new girlfriend, Connor already didn't like much before but this is what made him Jamal like all the other exes
Jamal died 3 months after the breakup and the entire Murphy family got invited to his funeral and well, the funeral was a shit show (lmk if you want me to write it because I love to do chaotic funerals)
