The body remained in full alert status.
The state of the body was a continual catalyst
to the state of the mind—a tempest of thought.
As time passed, more energy was accumulated
and devoted toward a raised state of awareness.
Sometime during this heated collection period,
the mind regurgitated a visual image in its net.
Devoting some effort to the delivered message,
the mind reinterpreted the neglected impression
as the instant in time that had been the present.
The digital dial displayed series of glowing points:
3:33.
There was a memory of a friend
with a predisposition for the time
1:11.
Over the few years with the woman,
her supernatural side was manifested.
One of the numerous circumstances
was self-proclaimed misery of awaking
night after sleepy night, inexplicably.
Each night she awoke, the time was
1:11.
To solidify the issue, on all occasions
when she had been called to stay up,
she was drawn to observe the clock
once a night. The time was always
1:11.
In the mind, there was no recollection
of any meaning to this odd number.
Stretching for more, it did not recall
any significance of that awareness.
There was not an eventual outcome,
good or bad, from this predisposition.
In those many uncounted moments
before the alarm issued foreboding,
the mind considered these numbers.
Was it a first of many nights to wake at
3:33?
Was it some type of weak warning?
Was there some whimsical warning
which the woman had missed with
1:11?
Did something happen regarding
1:11
that was never then communicated
to this now cautiously fretful mind?
Now, in the nature of numerology,
how did one interpret a witness to
1:11?
How was the "3" significant?
Was its sum, "9" significant?
Was a trio of threes significant?
Even now, when moments had passed
since even the cat settled back to rest,
the number had no known significance.
The current time was perceived as 3:54.
These numbers held less substance;
they couldn't hold more.
Did the housemate lie in bed
with these same thoughts?
Did that mind look at its bright clock
and find some value in 3:54
that now escaped this mind?
Did he know one thing more?
The mind contemplated
the active alarm again.
The mind and the body
were both fully awake
to catch the house alarm.
The mind knew the alarm
had not one significance
in and of itself—just as
there had been none for
the siren and the whistle.
Yet, surely the succession of
events indicated something.
There was something that
demanded consideration.
There was something that
tied these events together.
