Eric's pov

I wasn't going to let her die. I wasn't going to let death look her straight in the eye. I needed to save her.

I rushed into the clinic, through the broken window and started screaming at the top of my lungs.

"Connor!!" Within a second, Connor came sprinting out of his office.

"Quick! Take her into my examination room." Connor opened the door as I carried her limp body in my arms. I quickly set her down on the examination table.

"Oh no! This is bad!" Connor scurried around the room, pulling out syringes and instruments.

"What's wrong?" I questioned. Please don't make this any worse.

He didn't answer.

"Connor, what's wrong? Is she going to be okay?" Many questions continued to flow through my mind. I couldn't think straight. The state of panic flowed through my body. Many questions lingered in my mind that needed answering. I yanked him by the arm and made him face me.

"Connor! What is going on?!" I couldn't hold it back anymore. I needed answers.

"I need you to step out into the waiting room," Connor spoke in a calm voice.

"No. I need to stay with her-." Connor suddenly cut me off.

"There's no time!"

I knew I couldn't argue with him. Only time could tell. I took his orders and waited out in the waiting room. Anxiety rose from my gut. I am so worried about her. I felt so stupid for not getting to her in time. It was all my fault. I should have never made her go with me. She would have been safer at home. I should have never left my kingdom. Maybe this is all of my fault. If I would have taken my rightful position as the heir to the throne, none of this would have happened.

Suddenly, my thoughts snapped back to reality when Connor exited the examination room. My legs then had a mind of their own and made me stand up. He shook his head as he approached me.

I hope this is good news.

"Is she going to be alright?" My heart started to ache with anticipation.

"Yes, she is stable for now. I managed to remove some of the poison from her blood. She doesn't have much time left." My heart suddenly stopped. Please tell me there is good news.

"And that is where you come in."

"Without using any of my technology, I can sense two distinctive genes." Connor took in a breath and looked at his clipboard.

"The genes from her mother are linked to a human genetic code. But that isn't the only interesting thing I found out. Her father's genes weren't as dominant as her mother's. His genetic code traces its way back to the honourable house of Ballad."

Wait. That is one of the oldest noble families of vampire culture. They were slain long ago. How did her father survive all of this time? Wait, does that mean.

"That makes her half-vampire and half-human. Now, the only way from preventing her from turning feral like the rest of those half-brain-dead-animals, you're going to need to seal the bond." Connor then dug out a pocket watch from his lab coat pocket.

"You have a few hours to spare. You will need to claim her as your mate. You can choose to sink your teeth when she is relaxed, or if you really have some class, Eric, you'll do it romantically." Connor jabbed his elbow into my gut. I couldn't help but roll my eyes, and smirk.

"I'll try." I couldn't help but mumble. What if she doesn't accept me?

"She's awake now. If you want to go take her home, do so now." I nodded in response and walked into the examination room door. I stopped for a second, before opening the door.
