BEAU GILBERT HAD NEVER ONCE THOUGHT ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD. As she lies there, water flooding through her throat and into her lungs, she couldn't help but wish she had written a will. Perhaps even just donated all of her old clothes to the nearest homeless shelter? A dark voice couldn't help but wiggle its way forward to the front of her mind as her eyes were blinded by the entity that had been screeching her name. Had she deserved this?

No. No, she did not deserve this. How could she when her actions were caused by the ideals of a true family? Protecting the ones she loved wasn't a crime, it never could be. If god was to blame for this puny car wreck of a crimeless murder then god too shall die by her hand. Life as though it were a game of chess that always ended with the queen dead first.

The black-haired girl could feel the presence of her sister being lifted away from beside her, the everlasting heat which once held her conciseness in its hands being torn from the sinking car. A heroic act, Beau could assume, by someone who bit off more than they could chew. They would have to live with knowing that three people who they could have saved died. Died in something as meaningless as a car wreck. If Beau's lungs weren't being filled with dirty lake water, she probably would have scoffed.

Feeling her final light leaving her body, the girl decided to relax into the pain and let the burning of her lungs overtake the screaming, scorching pain she felt. Was this what her victims had endured? It was almost peaceful in a strange, dark way, as nothing was filling her mind but the water around her. The bubbling and muffled sounds of the deep night were soothing Beau into a deep, dark sleep, having the final moments of clarity slowly glaze over into nothingness. It was nice, Beau noticed. Nothing... after all these years all she felt was finally nothing. Her eyes fluttered shut.

. . .

The beeping was the first thing the girl had heard. A bright white light seared through her eyes as her head banged and moaned with each little move as if it had been punishing her for all of the thoughts that roamed inside during its final moments. Letting her eyes flicker open to the sound of the buzzing fluorescents, she noticed a girl, wrapped up in a warm blanket, sitting next to a hospital bed. Her hospital bed. Her sister. Fuck.

"Beau!" Elena gasped, her dried cheeks suddenly flooded with tears once more as she grasped her sister, the firmness and strength in the hold seemingly foreign to both parties, "I thought you were dead, I thought I lost you too, I-" she was cut off by a cold, pale hand slapping itself over her mouth.
