One quiet evening,
the chirpers stopped chirping;
the crickets stopped singing;
the stars stopped twinkling
and I stopped trying.

I packed up my bags,
and got dressed up in rags.
These rags were pieces of me,
all cut up in bits and wishes.

I quit on you,
and I quit on me.
I choose the blue
in spite of who you said I could be.

Because I was broken,
and so were you.
The only difference is you are real
and I'm a lie.

A lie you won't admit.
A sham you won't forgive.
An identity you created for when you have to run,
-for when you have to hide.

And oh, did I fit the role;
Oh, did I make you feel whole.
I fit it so good...
You became a guest,
where I was the inn.
You become the host,
I became a skin.

Detachable.
Yet Indispensable.

For you were so in love with the image of me,
You'd made for yourself,
You forgot that I am You.
You are Me.

You're just real…
and I'm Not.
