That child in the corner

Can't help but wonder

What an ordinary family is like.

That child in the corner

Can't help but accept

The messed up family he was born in.

His parents?

They're arguing constantly.

His mom?

She's mentally ill.

His dad?

He's about to leave.

His siblings?

He doesn't have any.

That child in the corner

Is all alone in this cruel world.

He's tired, but he can't sleep.

He's anxious, he worries about things.

He's depressed, always on the brink of death

And no one cares.

His parents are too busy with their conflict

And their child is obligated to witness it all.

Alcohol, screaming, beating

That's what some kids

Live through everyday.

Guess what? No one cares.

At an early age,

These kids learn

That if they don't help themselves,

Then no one else will.

At an early age,

These kids learn

How to be independent

'Cause humans are selfish.

Some kids can't take it

And give up on life

Thinking it's their fault

That their parents ended up like this.

No, it's the other way around.

What did a poor child do

To have to go through shit?

What did a poor child do

To deserve this misery?

It's not their fault

That life was unfair to them.

It's not their fault

They were born this way.

That child in the corner

May be hiding, but he's stronger than he appears to be,

He may act like a loser, but he's wiser than he seems

And nothing can stop him from living his well deserved life.
