Y/N POV
I barely have time to put any of my things down before Florence launches herself at me. It happens so fast she's just a blur before jumping up and latching herself onto me like a koala. She squeezes me tightly.
"Hey babycakes! Told you I'd be home soon!" I say as I gently rub her back. She seems content to stay right where she is, and she clearly needs the comfort so I simply stand there and hold her.
"I'm so glad you're back!" Flo says, although it comes out as more of a mumble from the way her face is buried in my shoulder.
After a couple of minutes of quite literally handling a very needy Florence, I'm saved by her phone vibrating in her pocket. She removes herself from me and retrieves the ringing phone, her face lighting up when she sees the caller ID. She turns her phone to show me the screen. "I think you should take that." I say with a grin and a nod. Florence beams before stepping around me and out the front door, answering my brother's call as she does.
As the door closes my eyes land on Hailee and Griffin. Hailee sports a knowing grin, while Griffin looks thoroughly confused. I chuckle softly before stepping forward and tapping his chest a couple of times. "What can I say bud, your best friend is a fucking idiot who has some serious explaining to do." Hailee laughs as Griffin remains confused and I never stop walking towards the kitchen where I'm headed.
I'm pouring myself a glass of water when Griffin and Hailee join me. "Now you have some explaining to do! Florence has been with us all day, and she's been in a mood if I've ever seen one. Then suddenly you walk in and she attaches herself to you, and when her phone rings she's suddenly all better? Can someone please just fill me in on what's going on?" Griffin explains, clearly very confused. What is it with men just not understanding things?
Hailee and I share a look before either of us respond to Griffin. "Which of our brothers is more oblivious?" I ask Hailee with equal parts sass and seriousness. Hailee doesn't hesitate to play along. "Oh I think Griff has this one in the bag." She says.
"What the heck?!" Griffin exclaims. He might actually explode if we don't explain things to him soon. Hailee rolls her eyes before I start the explanation.
"Basically, Fletcher is an idiot. He has a massive crush on Flo, which is no secret. He kissed her at midnight on New Years, which also isn't a secret. But then when we all came back home he kind of ghosted her." I say, giving a quick rundown. At this point I feel like I've been having this conversation all day.
"Seriously? Damn Fletch, way to be a complete dick." Griffin says, sounding more than a little surprised by my brother's actions.
"Exactly. And as it turns out, Florence likes him too. Thus the mood." Hailee adds. We both see the exact moment everything comes together in Griffin's head.
I finish my water before turning back to face Hailee and Griffin. "Alright. Now that everyone is up to speed, what did you guys accomplish while I was gone?" I ask. The two share a look and a smile before Hailee tilts her head for me to follow her.
"I thought you'd never ask!" She exclaims as I follow her to the stairs, Griffin in tow behind us both.
When we walk into our bedroom, my jaw drops. Pushed to the side and stacked up the wall are numerous boxes, all labeled and taped up neatly. "Surprise!" Hailee squeals when I turn around, shock evident on my face.
"How did you guys get so much done so fast?! I was only gone a few hours!" I exclaim, looking down at my watch.
Hailee grins and Griffin shrugs. "Divide and conquer. I took care of the clothes while Griffin packed up the rest of the room." My girlfriend explains. "Throw in Flo's moral support and we were basically a machine." Griffin adds playfully.
