Chapter 4: Into the Woods

The next morning, we all decided to make our first steps on the journey toward Rustboro city. Passing by multiple trainers and wild Pokemon, we began to tread the grassy path towards our destination.

"Zigzagoon, use Tackle on the Taillow~! Poochyena, attack the Combusken with Crunch~!" A woman commanded as we went on with a battle with her. It was a double battle, with the match-up of her Poochyena and Zigzagoon, against Yone and Hina.

"Yone, use Double Team," I replied, commanding Yone to counter it and proceed to make a move, fully demonstrating her capabilities as a now recovered Pokemon. She began to move as swiftly as she could, her movements causing after images. Thanks to this, the enemy Zigzagoon missed the target and is now wide open.

"H-He missed?!" The woman exclaimed in shock.

"Alright, Yone! Now, follow up with a Quick attack!" I commanded Yone, who began to make the final move. She began to dash to the Zigzagoon at high speeds, and slashes it with her blade, causing it to faint and be rendered unable to battle.

Meanwhile, Hina takes damage in battle as she tanked a Crunch from the Poochyena. But despite that, she remained tough and was determined to finish it off. Getting back on her feet, Hina then prepares herself for the next phase of the battle.

"Poochyena, use Mud Slap~!" The woman said to the Poochyena, causing it to hurl a ton of dirt and mud, aiming at Hina.

"Dodge it Hina!" I told Hina to retaliate against it. The moment it started to charge at her, Hina dodges it by jumping high up in the air, avoiding the attack. 

"Now, finish it off with Ember!" 

And thus began the final turn, as Hina understood my words clearly, she began to charge up bursts of flames in her feet and dashed for the Poochyena, without giving it anytime to react. Hina then goes for the offense by doing a Bolley kick towards the opponent, shooting out bursts of flames, scorching the Poochyena as it was thrown to a nearby tree.

The enemy Poochyena tries to stand up, but it eventually gave in as it was hurt by the burn the ember of Hina caused. Succumbing to it, the Poochyena faints and was rendered unable to battle.

"Zigzagoon~! Poochyena~!!!" The female trainer ran towards her fainted Pokemon and comforted them returning them to their Pokeballs.

"Oh, my dearest Pokemon..."

"That was truly a wonderful battle..." The trainer then smiled at us, lending out her hand once again.

"Kudos to you, young man... I'm looking forward to another battle if we meet again."

"Same right here." I smile and shake her hand as well. And with nothing else, we went on to venture to the grassy fields and continue with our journey.

...

"Ugh... I'm starving..." Hina groaned as we continued to walk along the fields.

"How much longer till we get to Rustboro City, Master?"

"I'm afraid it's still quite far from here... We have to pass through Petalburg Woods before we could even approach the city itself." I replied.

"Darn..." Hina complained, clutching her tummy. As Hina whined for the duration of the trip, I noticed that Yone was clutching her tummy as well. It looks like she has been starving for quite a while.

"... Yone...?" I called for her attention, wanting to know if she was alright.

"... I-I'm fine, Y/N-sama. Let's keep on going." She replied with a small nod, trying to hide her hunger. 

I was quite surprised by Yone's behavior. The Pokedex clearly stated that Taillows tend to cry loudly whenever they were hungry, but it looks like Yone was built differently. She manages to behave well, suppressing those cravings and hunger unlike Hina, who kept on whining the whole time.
