They have been hugging for a good five minutes, Serkan, was worried, but can’t help to feel glad Eda was this close to him. He had wished to be this close since the first time he had met her, but he had to lay back.  He made sure to let her cry, he can feel his shoulder getting a little wet from all the tears, but it doesn’t matter. He needs Eda to know he is there for her. He may want something more, but with the love she have for her husband, Serkan will take anything he gets as long as he’s close to both Eda and Kiraz.

She finally let’s go and wipes the tears from her eyes. Serkan reached for the napkins on the tray and hand it over to Eda. “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yes, sorry about that. I just…” she sniffs, wiping her nose with the napkin.

“You don’t have to explain anything, I understand.” he smiles at her, reached for the hair covering her face and tucked it to the back of her ear. Such beauty, I wish I could do something for you to be happy again.  He thought to himself. Serkan have met quite a few girls in his lifetime, and he had never felt anything like this. Eda was not just any other woman. She is something else. If only there was a chance she’d open her heart again after losing her husband.

Eda, stared at Serkan, he was staring blankly at the table. What are you thinking about?  She wants to ask him. She was somehow about to panic after realizing she must’ve gave too much after crying over his dream. That dream, she remembers it perfectly. They just got home from the hospital after giving birth to Kiraz. That day was one of the best days they’ve had.

If only you’d remember, that wasn’t just any dream, my love. That was a memory.  She sniffs some more and cleared her throat.

“He was a great dad you know. He had been there since we first learn we were pregnant, he had read all the pregnancy books he gets his hands on. After I gave birth, I never woke up in the middle of the night to change a single diaper. It was all him. He worked from home for almost a month just to make sure I had all the help I can get.”

“Sounds like he was a great man Eda.” He turns to face her, her face parallel to his. He moved his hand to her face and wiped the tears. “I wish I can help ease your pain, Eda.”  I can bear to see you like this.

“Just you being here is enough Serkan.” She reached for his arm and smiles. He smiled back and she leaned her head on his shoulder, Serkan leaned his head to hers and slowly both fell asleep.

They were in the exact same position when Ayfer comes into the office. She was trying to stop Kiraz from coming up here, but the child cannot take being far from her mother for a couple of hours. She almost gasped loudly when she saw Serkan and Eda on the couch. Kiraz was following behind her. “Shush my darling. Mom and Dad are sleeping.” She picked up the little girl and they stared at the two peacefully sleeping.

Kiraz shifts her body to be let down and slowly walked towards Serkan’s side and lay on her father’s lap. Ayfer left the office after making sure Kiraz was settled. Why wouldn’t she be, she was with her parents.

Eda felt a heavy object leaning against her head, she opens her eyes and saw the tray of food she brought, she moved her head to check what that heavy object was and Serkan’s hed slowly leaned even more; her nose and lips on the side of his face.  She grabs the pillow behind her and slowly shifted Serkans head so it was leaning onto the pillow. She moves slowly, staring at his face and planted a kiss on his cheek.

“I miss you so much my love. Please come back to me.” She whispers, stands up and saw a sleeping Kiraz, leans over her daughter and gave her a sweet kiss on the cheek. “I love you my cherry.”

Eda went down to the café to get some fresh coffee. She saw her Aunt putting freshly baked cookies in the glass counter. “Good morning, Auntie. Can I have one of those?” the older lady turns to her with a smile glued on her face.

“Good morning my darling, aren’t you a sight.”

“I fell asleep, what time did you get here?” she grabs a piece of cookie and took a bite.

“An hour ago, Kiraz was pushing me out of the house.”

“She was looking forward for breakfast. Serkan promised her they’ll have breakfast together today.”

“Speaking of Serkan, I saw you two earlier. Oh my sweet Eda, I wish he’d be back for real.”

“He’s getting some more images every day, but he doesn’t know how to deal with it. He had a dream about that day we got out of the hospital after Kiraz was born.”

“Ohh.. I pray he’d finally regain his memory back. You’ve had puffy eyes for months. I want to see my happy Eda again.” Ayfer caressed her niece’s check. She had been with Eda since she was a child. She had cared for her like she was her own, and it hurts her seeing her sad.

The past five months, have been difficult to both her niece and granddaughter. Ayfer had made sure they knew she was there to support them. She moved to their house to help them with anything. Eda, is a strong girl, she knows that. But after almost losing her husband and her child’s trauma, Ayfer knew she needed a shoulder to lean on.

“He is in there somewhere Auntie, he just needs time.” Eda said and smiles.

He moved further to the pillow but felt something shifting on the side of his right leg. Serkan, had been asleep for an hour. He checked his watch; it was almost 11 in the morning. He looked down to his right side, and saw a sleeping Kiraz, her mouth forms a smile.

“What a beautiful little princess.” He taps his forefinger on her nose and checked on his left side. Eda was not there. She must’ve gone down to the café, he thought.

He carefully stands up, placing a pillow under Kiraz. He smiles as he looks the child sleeping peacefully in front of him. A beautiful brown eyed girl with the scent of cherries.  He remembers his dream and smiles at the thought.

He was on his way to his laptop when his eyes caught the certificate from International Star Registry. He picked it up and studied the document. “You’re a hard man to beat I tell you that. You have given her the stars.” He murmured and places the paper back on the table. Just when he was about to sit down, an image suddenly appeared inside his head.

He was trekking, ruins of an old temple; the sky full of stars and the same soft hands holding his.

This is the first time I brought a girl here with me.

He knew where that place is. He had been there many times before. He looked at the woman beside him, her face a blur. He can’t see her face, it was foggy.

It’s beautiful.

He heard the woman said and he answered, looking at her hazy face.

Very, very beautiful.
