013. the golden trio

a few weeks have passed, clementine met this new boy and she's been inviting him to hang out with them a lot recently.

it's not a duo anymore, unfortunately.

denzel was happy that clementine got a new friend, but he had a weird feeling about the new boy. he appeared so randomly which caused denzel to be suspicious of him, but he couldn't say anything because he didn't want to cause any drama with clementine.

the boy's name was kyren and he seemed like a really nice person, he would always offer to pay for the two if they didn't have money and would bring them snacks every once in awhile. denzel couldn't lie, he was really cool, he just didn't know why he felt so weird about him.

it was lunch time, denzel was sitting in an aisle of the library, waiting patiently for clementine to arrive. he was finishing up some homework from his chemistry class so he didn't have to do it later on.

he drowned out all the noises that surrounded him with his music, trying to focus only on his assignment.

recently, he's been focusing on getting his grades up since he's already in the second semester, he didn't want to end up going to senior summer school after everyone else graduated.

besides, he was sure that clementine wouldn't mind, she has a new friend after all.

as he finished his last assignment, he glanced over at the chair clementine usually sat on. she wasn't there, how odd.

it wasn't long until the bell rang, clementine didn't even show up. weird.

he wasn't being replaced, was he?

after school, denzel decided to go to the beach again, he hasn't been there in a few weeks. it wouldn't hurt to go back again.

"hey, den!" a voice called.

as he turned towards the voice, he saw clementine waving at him. but, she was holding kyren's hand..? since when was this a thing?

clementine approached him with kyren trailing behind her, she had a big smile on her face so he assumed that she was happy.

"oh, hey, clem. where were you at lunch?" he asked.

"shit. i'm sorry, i was with kyren in the game room... but—we have something to tell you." she spoke.

uh oh. 'we'?

his eyes flickered between the two, waiting for what they had to say.

"i hope this doesn't change anything between the three of us. and i hope you're cool with it denzel." kyren added.

just spit it out already.

"we're dating!" they both spoke, "jinx!"

"oh.. that's—that's good news!"

no, no it wasn't. why are they together?! they don't even look good together.

"yeah so, we were thinking of heading over to 'two whales' for something to eat, wanna come with?" clementine asked.

"you know, i was planning on going to the beach since i haven't been there for awhile. thanks for the invite, though." denzel replied as he nodded, walking away.

the whole dating announcement was so sudden, he didn't even know that clementine had a crush on kyren.

denzel wanted to be supportive, but he just couldn't. he felt weirded out by this. was he jealous of them or something?

the whole situation felt odd to him, clementine's never hid anything from him before. he felt like she didn't trust him anymore, was that the case?

he found himself standing in the beach, watching the waves crash against the land, hearing the splashes faintly repeat behind the music he was listening to.

he sat down before grabbing his sketchbook from his bag, thinking about what he should draw.

he wasn't so sure on how the future is going to be like—between the 'trio'. it's going to be different, very different. he knew that the both of them would get into a relationship, but he didn't know that it'd be this soon.

as his pen moved across the page, he began to think about what would happen between him and clementine.

these thoughts began to make him feel sad. he began to ask himself 'what if' questions.

third wheeling is going to suck.
