how much time does it take to learn to survive ? for suan , it took nineteen years of learning how to walk properly , talk properly , study hard , work hard and even perhaps to go on dates. her dear mother has brought her up and taught her all those things except for the last one which suan's best friend slash enemy lee rayeon. the girl is cool and badass and chic and expert at trash dating advice without ever having a boyfriend herself and ever since suan had gotten a weird obsession with the boy working part time with her , rayeon had been very happy and proud. that's what best friends were , fighting over chocolate ice-cream and lecturing about love. but even all-knowing smarty-pants best friends did not know how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
a literal zombie apocalypse.
as in real. not in video games , movies or kdramas. surviving in a city with walking humans was not the same as surviving in a city with walking corpses ready to lunge at you the moment you make the slightest sound.
so what use are these nineteen years if you would not be taught about ways to survive - hold on to something , anything and not just jump off the roof. it is cruel to try to survive in a situation you know you can't. you know you'll die any second and hope only makes it worse. hope makes you want to grab someone's hand and lace your fingers with theirs and then tighten your grip so that you know you won't fall into the raging fire down below.
hope - that cruel thing , makes you want to run thousands of days and nights to find a door to escape the abyss you are stuck in , even though you know that door doesn't exist. and hope is the thing that drives people crazy if their survival is at stake. she knew for love people could kill but for survival people could stab a person twenty times then drink their blood instead of water.
but suan would rather die than try to survive with false hope. she knew that her lovely mother would be one of those ugly, despicable maniacs out to kill , bite the flesh off a person and then grin with bloodied teeth. so would her dear best friend rayeon.
and suan could not do anything about it. she would just watch and watch and watch then cry her heart out , then finally pull the trigger so that the bullet hits her own head. because she couldn't do anything about it. it was hopeless with all these monsters on every street. human population had gone down from a billion to a mere thousand in a few hours. all that she could do was pull herself together and join hands with someone she knew would abandon her sooner , than later.
