HELLO!

This one-shot does not need to have much knowledge of the Wings of Fire book series, but if you would like to read it, (or haven't read 'Dragonslayer') I would recommend skipping this until you have read it. They aren't any major spoilers, just somethings best to find out when reading the book.

For those who haven't but want to read this anyway, the only things you need to know is that Valor is a city hidden in the ground to hide away from Dragons who may want to attack them and it is not allowed to be exited, and that Heath is the lord of it. He was a very well respected man known as 'The Dragonslayer', who often told stories of how he slayed a dragon. He makes laws (silly ones) and never follows them himself. (self-absorbed hypocrite)

A Wingwatcher is someone who watches the skies for dragons and doesn't let anyone out of the village. They guard the place and study the dragons who fly overhead. They are quite respected amongst the Valor community. The population of Valor barely ever goes outside, some never even have, so keep in mind their reactions to things like the ocean, the sky, sand, fire, they are all things they have never seen before, and it's a completely new thing.

This is also not correct on the location on where Valor is for the distance to the sea, but ignore it for the sake of the story please!

Also they have three moons. Totally normal :]

None of the people mentioned here are dragons, all humans or 'Scavengers' as known by dragons. Dragons think that humans are dumb and useless, and often eat them, while most humans think the same about dragons, just ... not the eating part.

Tw: mentions of dragon murder, little to no respect for a leader, mentions of banishment

Becoming a Wingwatcher was never George's idea. It was his friend Dreams, something in which he dutifully followed along with just like most things they did together in life.

But joining the program opened a whole new realm of possibility's and moments to his life. From the first time he sighted the sky, a seemingly endless expanse of blue, to his first dragon sighting, a dark blue one he now knew to be a Sea Dragon, appearing to be in a hurry, but they all flew too quick to be sure.

Night shift was his favourite, the ignorant bliss of where Heath was going, the nights spent with Dream just chatting. Staring at the dark sky and connecting constellations, muttered words over sleepy snacks, it was the time he enjoyed the most.

"Look at that one!" Dream yelped, reaching over to intertwine their fingers in excitement at a new found shape, still in awe at the sky and its stars despite having worked out there for a few years. George guiltily excepted the butterflies the action brought, allowing them into his stomach with the knowledge that trying to stop them would make them worse.

"They're called asterisms you know." George informed him, gently drawing their hands away from each other in a subtle attempt to push his feelings away. Dream frowned slightly at the action, a motion going unnoticed by George who was still peering up at the sky. He nodded his head regardless and released an approving hum.

"I know, you tell me every night." He replied, chuckling at his friends consistently. The brunette grinned smugly back.

"We don't have shifts every night." He teased, poking the blonde in the side. "Karl and Sapnap take the even days!"

Dream's chuckles faltered and he rolled his eyes, adjusting the stiff green uniform he was forced to wear. He looked out at the orchard, a figure just visible amongst the pear trees. From the obvious swagger in their step and the sack thrown over their right shoulder, they were obviously Heath, their Lord.
