Beatrice Cordova still had the teddy bear that Jeremiah Fisher, the ring toss god, had won her when she was twelve. Of course, she'd never tell him that. Not that she could if she wanted to; they were no longer on speaking terms anyway. Bea had not uttered a single word to Jeremiah Fisher since the fallout last summer, and she reminds herself constantly that she would, or better put, must, be fine with not speaking to him ever again. The road-trip drive to Cousins was something that Bea looked forward to. "Shotgun!" she would call out to her sister as they raced to the passenger seat. Even if Bea had won the race, she still let Kat sit up front. Once they arrived, they'd settle into their quaint summer home and swim immediately following. Their summer home was the neighboring beach house to the Fisher's, so a suffocated piece of Bea had wished to see Jeremiah as soon as her foot laid itself unto the pearly beach sand. The orange and pink haze of saltwater and sunburn wouldn't be the same without him. Summer wouldn't be the same without Jeremiah Fisher by her side.
