When Bellamy arrives at the police station it seemed like an average day. Officers were stationed at their desk filing out paperwork, the secretary was at the entrance taking calls, and the chief was in his office. A normal day with nothing too exciting or catastrophic to be concerned about. Only hours into his shift at his desk does he get a phone call from Arkadia High that his day shifts like a rug pulled from beneath him. Normally if he gets a call from Octavia' s high school that either meant she missed a class, was late, or caught doing something mischievously with her delinquent friends. Either way it was never good and left Bellamy's day to go from normal to a pain in the neck.
Bellamy loves his little sister dearly but that didn't mean she couldn't be a handful sometimes.
With a heavy sigh Bellamy answers the call and leans back in his chair. Whatever news they were giving him this time he knew he ought to prepare himself. With Octavia he just never knew the kind of trouble she would have gotten herself into this time. Only he never expects the following words to leave the principal's mouth.
"Hello Mr. Blake. I'm calling in regards to your sister Octavia." Bellamy bites back a sigh as he human. "She never showed up today."
Without missing a beat Bellamy's feet fall from his desk, the abrupt motion making him use his left hand to catch onto the desk. Octavia was a lot of things but a school skipper wasn't one of them. Bellamy has had innumerable conversations with his sister on how important school was, to have an education for people like them. It was more than just important to have a good job or a good life. It was their escape.
People who grew up in situations like theirs and have to fight for what they want more than those born and raised into wealthy and middle class families. Education as the first step. Octavia was always annoyed and irritated when they had the conversation but he knew that she understood. It's why she's always had a perfect attendance in all of her schools from elementary to middle school. When she entered High School her attendance wasn't perfect but that didn't mean she missed a whole day. Sure she was late sometimes or missed a class here and there, but never an entire day.
And now she wasn't at school.
It wasn't like her to just not show up, if she was sick or not feeling well then she would have given Bellamy a call or shot him a quick text to let him know, but none of that happened.
His heart beat pounded in his chest as he sits still in his chair, every horrid scenario running through his mind.
"Mr. Blake?"
"Uh, yeah... I-I'm here." The principal asks his routine questions but Bellamy simple doesn't have the answers. "I'll go home and check on her myself and give you an update on how she is. Thank you for the call."
As the call ends with a click Bellamy a hand claps his shoulders from behind making him jump.
"Hey man, what's wrong?" With a sigh Bellamy relaxes some of the tension in his shoulders as he hears Miller's voice
"It's O. She's missing."
"Missing? What'd you mean she's missing?"
"I just got off the phone with her principal. She never made it to school this morning." Miller curses under his breath. "I'll make a few calls before I start to worry."
"I'll do the same. Let me know before you leave. I'll come with."
With a curt nod Bellamy gets to work on calling Octavia first, first her cell then her friends and their homes. If she was unwell then her friends would know. But with each call he makes his heart falls further into his chest. With every call the hope he had left crumbled further.
