CHAPTER 2: We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals p.2

Resting your head on the steering wheel of your car, you mentally prepare yourself to meet your family for the first time in years.

You had been one of the first ones to leave, especially since Ben was one of the only reasons you stayed there. And Klaus, too, but you had taken him with you the day you left.

There was also Vanya, but she had left before any of you.

You weren't as close with the rest of the family.

Sighing, you sit up, staring at the gates of the mansion.

You were tempted to leave, and never show your face.

But you knew that would be selfish.

Letting out an annoyed groan, you turn off the engine of your car and swing the car door open.

You step out, careful to avoid any puddles of water on the floor.

Entering the house, you're hit with a wave of nostalgia.

The familiarity of this place hit you all at once, along with all the memories. Both good and bad.

A serious expression was plastered on your face. You hated this house with a passion.

"Welcome, Ms. y/n."

You turn around, startled.

"Pogo?"

Pogo stood near the stairs, smiling at you.

"Hello, dear."

You walk over to him, engulfing him in a hug.

"I haven't seen you in so long, how have you been?"

"I've been well, all things considered."

You nod.

"Right, how are you and Mom taking Reggie's death?"

Pogo takes a deep breath.

"I've been handling it well, Grace, not so much."

You hum in acknowledgment.

"Yeah, I figured. She did love that old man."

Pogo turned to the living room entrance, "you should go join the others, they started a meeting a few minutes ago."

You grimaced.

Shit.

You dryly chuckled.

"Well, this is gonna be messy."

Pogo let out a small laugh himself and walked off.

You hesitantly approached the doors, hand wavering near the doorknob.

You still had a chance to turn back.

Fuck it.

You quietly opened the door, hearing all sounds on the other side stop as everyone stared at you.

You quietly stared back, awkwardly shifting your feet.

"Y/nnnnnn!" Klaus jumped off the couch, arms stretched out as he went in for a hug.

You suspiciously eye him, "where the hell were you yesterday?"

"That's not important! Come on, come on! Sit!"

He dragged you to the couch and sat you down and then plopped down on the couch next to you.

You crossed your arms, rolling your eyes.
