Cherry slowly accepted his hand and he helped her up off the ground, dusting off the leaves that stuck to her cheer skirt.
"Oh,thank you."
Cherry said feeling those butterflies flutter in her stomach again.
Only this time it wasn't from nervousness.
"You wouldn't be the person I'm waiting for...are you?"
Cherry asked
Eddie held up his metal lunchbox
"I believe I am."
The sound of the metal hitting the wooden table echoed through the forest causing birds to swarm the sky in a panic from the noise.
Cherry sat down across from Eddie. She nervously played with the ends of her sleeve as she watched Eddie rummage through his lunch box.
Eddie felt the cheerleaders stare and looked up at her, noticing how nervous and distort she looked.
He closed the lunch box and sighed
"You don't have to do this if you don't want. I can just walk away give me the word."
"No no," cherry quickly defended "you're fine I just never done this before."
Cherry explained giving a little nervous laugh and Eddie nodded, feeling sympathy for her.
"You don't look like the type of person to do this."
"And you don't seem as scary as you look."
The blonde quickly covered her mouth, feeling rude.
"Oh I'm so sorry was that rude?"
She asked in a panic but all Eddie could do was laugh. Cherry felt her face get hot from embarrassment but it didn't last long
''you think I look scary? I'm kinda flattered, " he teased " I thought you were kinda scary too. "
Cherry's eyes widened and she couldn't help but laugh with him now
" You think I look scary? "
" Terrifying! "
Cherry laughed and rolled her eyes
" You know you're silly, Eddie Minson. Not much of a freak like they say. "
It was Eddie's turn to roll his eyes now from the mention of his nickname around school and their small town. Though he had grown to get used to the term " freak" it still left a bittersweet feeling in his mind. He never knew rather he should like it or hate it.
" Well you just met me so who knows if I am or not"
Eddie reopened the lunch box and grabbed out a rather filled sandwich bag, only it didn't have any food in it.
" Do you think I'm a freak?" Cherry asked and Eddie stopped what he was doing again to look at her.
"What do you mean"
"I'm a carbon copy of the teenage dream and here I am buying reefer in the middle of the woods from a complete stranger. Sounds like a freak to me."
Eddie sat the bag down and rested his elbow on the top of the table. He tested his hand of his cheek and looked at the girl with a raised brow.
" A complete stranger? It's like we've never gone to the same school since kindergarten before"
" You know what I mean though. We barely know each other, " Cherry explained " but nevermind I'm getting weird aren't I? "
" I like weird though. "
Cherry smiled and went to open her mouth when her wrist watch began to beep. She sighed and pushed the button on it to silence it

'' I'm running a little late I've got to get going. " She put the money Chrissy gave her on the table and reached her out for the bag. Feeling a little rude, she started a conversation again as she didn't want to just cut things short without a goodbye
" Will you be going to the game tonight? " She asked. A little part of her wished he would say yes but she wasn't surprised when he laughed and shocked his head no
" I'm doing a campaign with my club in the auditorium during it. I don't do basketball. " Cherry nodded her head and slipped the bag he gave her into her pocket as she stood up
" It was nice talking to you. Hopefully I'll see you around. "
Turning on the heels of her Reebok, Cherry made her way back towards the highschool to head home. She could hear Eddie gather up his lunch box and head the opposite way. For once she felt the feeling of true happiness but couldn't tell at that moment.
When she had finally made it home, she noticed Jason's car parked out front.
"Good," she thought out loud "Chrissy is here."
When she stepped inside she noticed Chrissy and Jason were sitting at the kitchen table doing homework. She noticed earlier her parents car wasn't out front so she wasn't surprised to notice how quite it was in her home.
Jason looked up at her and frowned
"Cherry if you had something to do for a class after school you should tell me," Jason scolded her "I waited in the parking lot forever until Chrissy told me you had a project.''
Chrissy gave her a smile as she stood up from the kitchen table before Jason could continue his little rant. She walked towards her friend and spoke up  "Would you like to go get ready for the game?" Chrissy asked and Cherry already  knew what she really wanted to do which meant she had to oblige. Jason wouldn't think anything of it because he had to get ready as well so it was the only time the two would have alone.
Soon as Cherry closed her bedroom door, Chrissy fell onto her mattress.
"You're brother is hard to convince." She said laughing and she plopped herself up onto her elbows.
Cherry laughed nervously before slowly pulling out the bag of weed from her pocket. Even though her bedroom was on the second floor and the door was tightly closed, she couldn't help but feel as if she was being watched and was going to get caught.
Chrissy quickly grabbed the bag from her friend and stuck it in her own jacket pocket.
"I'm gonna pretend like I left something at home. I'll see you at the game!"
Before Chrissy could leave, Cherry grabbed her arm.
"Chrissy what's really going on?"
The other cheerleader looked at her with surprise but continued to try and brush it off.
"I'm fine, Cherry."
"No you're not. You've been distant, skipping classes, and now drugs?! I'm your best friend you can tell me."
For a moment Cherry thought her friend was gonna come clean. Chrissy pressed her plump lips into a thin line but instead she continued to shake her head no as if nothing was wrong.
"Just been having a lot of bad dreams. Now I have to go I'll see you later."
Without another word Chrissy left leaving Cherry to stand there in silence.
