Chapter 37

I'm sitting in the living room waiting patiently for Jackson to turn up. It been 45 minutes since our phone call. Where is he? I don't know what to ask him either. I don't know what to do anymore, Cassie warned me too. God dammit! Does she know about Kyle? I hope he's okay.

10 minutes later, I hear a honk outside. I look and see Jackson parked up waiting for me. "I'm going mum, I'll be back later!" I shout upstairs. She must have been sleeping because all I got back was "mmm." I lock the door behind me and brace myself for a long day ahead of me.

"Do you want a drink?" Jackson asks leaning against the sink. "Water please." I wish I could chug wine, but that's out of the picture. "Okay, let's go upstairs."

"So." Placing the glass of water in front of me. "Why didn't you tell me the second you came into contact with Damien?" He says folding his arms. He's angry with me? After all the anger I've built up, I've really missed him - but that isn't enough for me to forget what's happened. "You don't get to ask the questions. You have a lot of explaining to do." I can't let him intimidate me or let my emotions get the better of me. I keep a straight face and state at him. "Sit." I say pointing to the end of the bed, I don't want be too close to him when I hear his answer. He frowns and takes a seat, I don't think he's ever had someone tell him go do something do degrading before, but he does it to me so it must make it acceptable. "What do you want to know?" He says crossing his arms. How can he be this confident? "Before I start, do you promise to tell the truth? No lies." I already know most of the answers, I just need him to admit it. I'll deal with the consequences later.

It takes him a few seconds to reply. "Yes." He looks nervous, is promising to be truthful to me that hard? "Okay. When Damien found me at the library, he knew more about me than he should havr,. He was very talkative, one thing I'm sure of - he's come back for revenge." Jackson swallows and shifts in his seat. "Hearing him say all of this was a lot to take in considering he admitted to following me for a while. So I came to the conclusion that hrs here because of something you and Kyle did." I don't break contact with him. Its not exactly a question, I've practically accused him.

"Did he tell you he's been following you?" He says. "Yes. I reply. "How did he even know about you?" Then I realised that he doesn't know about Kyle. He noticed that I'm hiding something and leans forward. "Have you two been in contact before?" He says, staring at me. What? "Who?" I ask. Does he think I've seen him before? "Damien, there's no one else who knows about us other than Cassie and.." He trails off and realises himself. "Kyle?" He asks. I look at my hands and nod. "That backstabbing bastard! I knee he'd do this!" He stands and yanks his phone from his pocket. I stand up and take the phone from his hand. "Give it back!" He yells. "Listen to me." I say gently. "Give. It. Back." He spits each word at me. He's past angry, I need to keep my cool. He storms past me and grabs his car keys. He's going to see Kyle and he won't be there. "He made Kyle tell him!" I shout. Why does he always let his emotions get the better of him? He stops and faces me again. "What do you mean?" Creasing his brow. "If you stop interrupting me, I'll tell you." Its so hard talking to him sometimes. "Fine, I want to know everything." He retakes his seat at the end of the bed. This isn't going where I want it to go. "Firstly, you need to answer my questions." I can't push this under the carpet. "This is more important ava! You be brought me out of work early for what? Some silly questions and accusions?" I knew he'd try and pick a fight, I can't beat around the bush any longer.

"Were you and Kyle involved in the death of Luca?" I say. Saying it makes my stomach turn. "What?" He says shocked. "You heard me. Damien believes you two are to blame." My heart is beating tens to the dozen, I need him to deny everything. "How would he know?" He says. I've asked one question and he's already getting defensive. "He said one of Lucas last fights was with you, which is didn't believe at first because you said you didn't like fighting. So when I called him a liar, he also told me you helped him create that club. Which leads me to my next question, did you help him create it?" He doesn't reply. He just stares at me, thinking. "Well?" Say no, tell me he's made it all up. I'm starting to get restless, tapping my foot isn't ratifying enough. He stands and makes his way over to me. "Ava, you don't know what your getting yourself into." Reaching for my hand. "Just say no!" I scream at him. I pull my hand away, tears are welling up. This is as much as my body can take. "I can't say no. There's no use in me denying it, is there? Because you already know the answer."
