the previously inseparable duo began to avoid each other for weeks, and to denzel, those weeks felt like the longest weeks in his life.
as time passes by, denzel, heartbroken and confused about the whole situation, continuously wonders about clementine. he tries getting her off his mind but he simply can't.
he doesn't blame clementine at all. he just wished he handled the situation a bit differently, just to have a better outcome.
every now and then, they'd make small eye contact in the halls, but they would never speak to each other, which hurt him. he was so used to walking up to her with a smile on his face every day, it's scary how quickly things can change.
eventually, things started to get easier. he was mainly focused on school and tried to take his mind off of clementine and the situation as a whole.
one day, denzel decided to check out a book from the library, not realizing that clementine was in the room. once their eyes met, he couldn't take his eyes off of her. the eye contact felt like forever.
he hasn't seen her in what felt like such a long time. he couldn't look away, he didn't want to look away, he missed her gorgeous brown eyes that resembled gold in the light.
clementine was the first to break eye contact. she looked upset, but relieved at the same time?
once he snapped out of his thoughts, he heard his name being called multiple times by the librarian, who was trying to get his attention.
"denzel, you're blocking the line. are you going to check out..?"
"yeah. sorry, i got distracted by something." he replied, placing the book on the counter.
the book he wanted to check out was an autobiography, but it had some aspects of romance in it. it was a book clementine had introduced to him when they were still friends, he hasn't read it yet so he might as well give it a chance.
in a way, denzel got seriously attached to clementine, even without those romantic feelings towards her. she was a great person to be around in general, he wanted to be in her life even if they were back to just being classmates.

denzel has been going to his cat, saturn, and the beach for comfort. recently, his favorite thing to do is to lay on the floor with a bunch of pillows and blankets, play with his cat, and watch his favorite movies or listen to his favorite music.
he felt at peace when doing those things, especially going to the beach. it sucked a little when going there though, he missed his brother, matthew, a lot. if matthew was still here, he'd be able to talk to someone about the situation with clementine. right now, he has to talk to tiny grains of sand and waves of salt water.
denzel hoped matthew was proud of him for keeping himself up with all the bullshit he had to deal with recently.
as of now, he was sitting at the beach as he played with his cat, listening to one of his favorite songs on his walkman.
the calming nature of his sandy surroundings gave him the perfect moment to bask in everything that had happened over the past couple of weeks. while admittedly, he was still hurt, he decided to take the first few steps to finally move on and begin a new stage in his life.
