Little did I know then
that it would be our
last.

[[ The past ]]

Two figures were seen,
nestled beneath the
comforting embrace
of the Sakura tree.

Kazuha lay with his
head cradled in your lap,
his expression serene,
bathed in the dappled
sunlight filtering through
the blossoms above.

You sat with your back
against the tree, knees
drawn up, lost in the
pages of a book.

With a contented sigh,
Kazuha closed his eyes,
surrendering to the gentle
caress of your hand as it
moved soothingly through
his hair.

In that moment,
beneath the whispering
leaves and the delicate pink
petals, time seemed to stand
still, encapsulating a fleeting
moment of solace and connection.

But not for long.

A bitter thought suddenly
struck you, disrupting
the tranquil moment beneath
the sakura tree.

Your hand faltered mid-stroke,
and a frown creased your
brow, casting a shadow over
your features.

Sensing the shift in your
demeanor, Kazuha blinked
open his eyes, wondering
why you had stopped, his gaze
searching yours with concern.

"Kazuha, can I ask you
something?" you inquired,
your voice tinged with a
hint of solemnity.

Kazuha sat up straight,
his attention fully on you.
"What is it?" he responded,
his curiosity piqued.

With a sudden seriousness,
you stated your request,
"Promise me, we'll watch
the fireworks festival
together."

Perplexed by your unexpected
remark, Kazuha furrowed his
brow. "What do you mean?"
he asked, trying to grasp the
significance behind your words.

Undeterred, you repeated
your plea, your tone sincere,
"Just promise me."

After a moment of
confusion, Kazuha nodded,
a hint of determination
in his gaze. "I promise,"
he replied earnestly.

Sensing the tension in the
air, you decided to diffuse
it with a light-hearted remark,
offering a laugh as you said,
"I'm just really excited."

Kazuha was momentarily
taken aback by your sudden
shift in mood, but he chose
to embrace it, joining in
on your laughter.

"We just recently watched
it, I was so confused when
you suddenly got so serious,"
he chuckled, his laughter
echoing beneath the sakura tree.

"Yeah, I'm just extremely
excited," you chimed in, your
laughter ringing out
alongside his, a moment of
shared amusement amidst
the weight of unspoken emotions.

"Of course, we'll watch it
together," Kazuha replied
without hesitation,
his hand finding its place
around your shoulder, offering
comfort and reassurance.

"I hope so," you whispered
softly, resting your head
on Kazuha's shoulder,
seeking solace in his presence.

Little did he know, as the
warmth of the moment enveloped
them, that it would be their
last happy moment together,
a fragile bubble of bliss soon
to be shattered by the cruel
hand of fate.
