Love At First Splat

Dashing down the hallway, thirteen year old Billy Batson turned the corner and ran smack into... an angel?

Golden hair fluttered around her, shimmering like a halo.

Splat! He fell on his face.

"Are you ok?" The angel stretched out her hand, caught his, and yanked him up to his feet.

"Ttthannks," he stuttered. Billy never stuttered. He had been reporting news on the air for Whiz for years already.

The angel smiled at him. Her cute braces glinted in the light. "I'm Courtney. What's your name?"

"Billy," his ears felt hot. His knees felt like jelly as he looked up at her. She was half a head taller than him.

"Courtney Whitmore! Come here now," came a shrill voice.

The angel's head jerked up. Her chin crashed into his forehead. Stars and birds flew around them.

Courtney's baby blue eyes twinkled as she smiled shyly at him.

"Sorry, I got to go. My mom's calling."
Rubbing her chin, she turned and ran off in the direction of that voice.

-------

"Land's sakes! What happened to you, son?"
Ma Kent frowned at the sight of the growing lump on Billy's forehead. The stupid grin on his face didn't slip past her sharp eyes either.

"Nothing," the boy's face was as red as his sweater.

"Let me take a look at that lump."

"It's ok. Doesn't hurt. Souvenir," Billy's silly grin grew wider as he sauntered into the house.

-------

"Clark, do girls like boys who are shorter than them?" Billy looked up at his giant of a big bro.

"I don't see why not."

"Would Lois still like you if you were shorter than her?"

"Actually, I don't know. Lois was infatuated with Superman for years.

I had a tough time wooing her away as Clark. I think ladies like guys who are sensitive and good listeners," Clark pondered.

"Wait, you were in a love triangle with yourself?"

"It's complicated,"chuckled Clark.

Pa Kent ruffled Billy's hair
"Actually, when I was small I was short for my age. My Pa got a me a pogo stick because he said jumping makes you grow taller."

"Really?" Billy lit up. At thirteen, he was often mistaken for a ten year old. It didn't bug him too much until he met Courtney.

"It's yours now," grinned Pa as he led the boy to the attic where he kept the old pogo stick.

-------

Boing! Boing! Crash!

There went the vase.

Boing boing boing, higher and higher went Billy.

"No powers in the house," yelled Ma from the kitchen.

"Not using any," Billy yelled back.

Boing! "Whoops!" Boing!
"Help! How do I stop this?"

"Clark, help Billy!" Said Pa.

"How? No powers in the house so I can't fly after him," Clark folded his arms and  leaned back into his seat, gleefully watching the show.

"Fiddlesticks! No powers rule lifted for this one exception," Ma was panicking too.

"Shazam!"
Lightning struck Billy through the roof.

Captain Marvel hovered in the living room beneath the huge gaping hole that was still smoking as Clark blew out the fire.

"Ok, no pogo sticks in the house either," stated Ma Kent

"Breaking news. There's a situation in Blue Valley. Five armed men are holding thirty people in the Blue Valley Inn hostage," Billy announced during his news segment. He caught Mr Morris' watchful eye.

"Be back with the latest updates after the break," Billy concluded as Mr Morris gave him a knowing nod.

A lightning strike later, Captain Marvel sped to the scene of crime.

Stargirl, a new hero, was already confronting the armed men. Her golden rod created a force field that protected her from the flurry of bullets. "Stop that," she said.

Captain Marvel's ears perked up. Courtney.

It had been two years since Billy bumped into her but he could recognize her voice anywhere. The mask did little to hide her pretty features or her golden locks.

She grinned when she saw him, cute braces glinting in the light.
Definitely Courtney

"Aren't you going to help?" She asked.

Snapping out of his stupor, Captain Marvel wrapped the guns around each of the armed men before they could even blink.

"Done," he beamed back at Billy's crush.

"Thanks! I'm Stargirl," she offered her hand.

"I'm Captain Marvel," he took her hand and shook it as carefully and gently as he could. Crushing her hand accidentally wouldn't make a good impression.

"Nice to meet you, Cap," her smile lit up the room. Then she hopped over to talk to the cops.

-------

"Captain Marvel, you are a hard man to find," said Jay Garrick, The Flash as he stood before the Big Red Cheese.

"How can I help you?" Beamed the big man.

"I know you are a member of the Justice League, but we'd like to invite you to join the Justice Society as well," said Jay as the rest of the JSA arrived to accompany them.

Captain Marvel spotted Stargirl with her sunny smile.
"Please? We need you Cap." Her sweet voice was irresistible.

"We are expanding our membership to deal with growing threats and really could use your power set," added Alan Scott, Green Lantern.

Cap's eyes fell on Courtney again.

He was already swamped with League duties, his job at Whiz on top of school, but Courtney's in the JSA.

"Sure! When can I start?" He replied against his better judgement.
