A/N: Takes place the night before chapter 2 of the game

It was dark, and quiet. The only source of light in the room was coming from the Player themself, who was emanating a soft red glow.

The only noise to be heard was Kris' soft breathing as they slept, tucked deep into their covers. The Player couldn't help but chuckle quietly as they recalled the fact that they often do the same.

While they sat in the middle of the room, they felt small, and alone. The silence was suffocating, and it echoed along the walls of the room. They didn't want to think, even though there was so much to think about. It was too much. Too many thoughts and feelings, it would just overflow and lead to disarray.

Try as they might though, their mind wandered off to the last thing Kris said to them before sleeping. "Goodnight." It wasn't anything complicated. It rang in their mind nonetheless, not knowing the reason why.

Was it a gesture of kindness? Or just a simple everyday saying, it wouldn't matter who they said it to? Did it mean they started to hate them less?

'But no, that can't be it. After all, remember what they said? What they did?'

The Player left their train of thought at that, cutting it with mental scissors and hoping that it won't bother them again.

They wondered what they should do now. They were stuck here. Nothing to do.

They attempted to open the door and leave, they couldn't touch the doorknob though. Nothing but air passing through their fingertips. A small sigh escaped their lips.

They looked around the room. Anything they tried to touch or pick up didn't have any physicality to them. Just the floor and walls. The keyboard keys didn't make their satisfying clicking sounds, the bed covers didn't get messed up and folded as they jumped onto it and flailed around. They tapped the wall. It felt solid enough , it was strange that it didn't make any noise though.

They glanced towards the digital clock on the desk next to Asriel's bed. It was about 3 am. About, what, 5 more hours till Kris would wake up for school? That's way too long to do lots of nothing .

They soon found themself floating and flying about. It felt just like a dream, weightless and carefree. They loved it, and they entertained themself for a few minutes before they inevitably got bored of it.

Now there was truly nothing. The familiar yet unfamiliar world they were in engulfed them in a feeling similar to loneliness, except much more empty. It sunk in them endlessly.

The only thing left to do was to sleep. But… they didn't want to do that. That would leave them vulnerable.

This was just a small price to pay for what they did. At least, that's what they told themself as the hours inched by.

-----

They wondered how they could get so tired in this state and form. It wasn't fair. After all, weren't they just a floating person made of red soul magic or something?

They tried to move around. Shaking their head around, tapping their hands and feet on the floor, rolling around, wiggling their body, even. None of it made the tiredness and the empty feeling go away.
