Chloe had a boyfriend.
How could Elly be this stupid? She had no idea she was making out with someone who was already taken. Why didn't Chloe tell her? How didn't Elly realize? How could she find out through Lola?
Elizabeth's mind was a mess. She didn't really know what to think about. She tried to convince herself that Chloe had a good explanation for this but she didn't really believe it. She cursed at herself for not asking. It was just a fling but she still should've asked her if she was dating someone. But she didn't.
And now Elizabeth is a cheater.
She has helped someone cheat on someone. This was everything she despised. She hated cheating so much. She had been cheated on before and knew how much it sucked. Elly remembered how much she wanted to scream at her partner and the girl he cheated on with. She wanted to throw all his stuff to the lake and get revenge on them. She never did. She knew better.
What should she say to Chloe? Elizabeth knew she had to break up with her. No, not break up. They have never been together so they can't break up. She should stop this fling or whatever was going on between them.
She should also tell her friends that she was the one having an affair with Chloe. Oh how ashamed she was right now. How could she ever tell them? They would be in shock because they all knew Elizabeth hated cheaters and now she was one herself. What could she do?
She wanted to hate Chloe for what she did. She wanted to yell at her and blame her for everything. Why didn't she tell Elly that she had a boyfriend? Did the boyfriend know about them? Had they been fighting over it? And how did people know that Chloe was having an affair with somebody? Has someone seen them?
"Elly? Is everything okay?" Elizabeth heard Max coming to her. She just realized she had stopped in the middle of the hallway. Her friend was looking at her worried and she put a smile on her face.
"Oh yes, I thought I forgot something but didn't." She tried to laugh but failed. She wasn't in the mood to even fake laugh. She was too stressed about the whole situation. She didn't understand how she ended up like this.
"Okay?" Max seemed skeptical but didn't say anything about it. He walked next to her until his lecture hall came in front of them.
"Hey, Max." Elizabeth stopped him. He turned to look at her.
"Yeah?"
Then she backed down. "Nothing, sorry." And then Elizabeth quickly walked away. She shouldn't trouble her friends for her own problems. It's not like they could even fix this for her. She needed to do that herself.
Her phone beeped.
Chloe: Where are you? You've been ignoring me since yesterday. Did something happen?
Yes. Something did happen. Elizabeth hadn't had the balls to answer her texts after she found out about the boyfriend. What could she say? Hey, sorry but I hate what you do. She knew she needed to end things with her but she didn't get the willpower. She knew she would miss her. She would miss her lips, her boobs, her everything. It's not like they even had sex or anything, she just liked her. Maybe too much to realize Chloe didn't like her the same way. Elly felt like a fool. She never thought she would be this stupid.
Elly: Sorry, I have been busy.
Chloe: Can we see? I miss u....
Elly: I'm not sure
Elly: Okay, let's meet up in the girl's bathroom nobody uses.
She took a few deep breaths and then started walking. She really needed to do this. If she didn't confront Chloe about it now, she would never do it. She would just bath in self pity and self hatred. She would hate herself forever if she didn't do it. But why did it feel so hard?
Elizabeth walked to the bathroom slowly. She needed a little bit of time to think about what to say to Chloe. She didn't want to be mean. She didn't want to hurt her feelings even though she was hurting her own.
Chloe was waiting for her in the bathroom already. She looked so beautiful. Her brown braided hair was on her other shoulder and she was biting her lip. She was wearing bright red leather jeans and black t-shirt that had a picture of some rock band. Elizabeth didn't want to admit she had gotten attached to the girl and was now breaking her own heart.
"Hi," the other girl said.
"Hi." Elizabeth was sad. She knew she would never get this back if she ended it now. She could never touch her silky skin again. She could never talk to her about her worries again. She could never get comforted by her or the other way. This would be it.
"Soo, are you mad at me for some reason?" Chloe asked but didn't sound mad herself. She sounded worried. Elly guessed she was anxious to know if she had found out about her boyfriend.
"I know," Elly sighed.
Chloe laughed. "Know what?"
"Chloe, I know about your boyfriend." Elly couldn't stop tears falling out of her eyes. She was disappointed, heart broken.
Chloe stood in silence. She looked at Elly shocked. Even she started crying.
"I'm sorry... I should've told you when we started this..." Chloe sniffled. "I just want you to know that I never cheated. You didn't cheat with me. We have an open relationship with Caleb."
Caleb. That was his name. Caleb. Chloe and Caleb. Much better fit than Chloe and Elizabeth. Elly wasn't sure if it would've been better to not know his name.
"Why didn't you? Tell me about... Caleb?" She had a hard time saying his name.
"I don't know. I was afraid you wouldn't want to be with me. I know we weren't together officially but..." Chloe explained quietly. She looked ashamed and sad and all Elly wanted was to take her into her arms and comfort her. She wanted to hug her and kiss her and tell her everything was fine. But everything was not fine. Everything was wrong now.
"You could've told me. I would have understood. I'm bi and you know it. I wouldn't have judged you." Elizabeth said.
"I know. I was stupid, still am."
Then Elizabeth did the hardest things she had ever had to do. Giver her up. She kept her voice calm when she said: "I think we should end this."
Chloe broke down and cried. "I- I can f-fix this. P-please just give me a-another chance."
Elly shook her head and tried not to cry. "I'm sorry." With that being said she left the bathroom. Her heart stung when she turned her back to crying Chloe. She fought the urge to go back and hug her. After the bathroom door closed she burst into tears and sobbed.
She could never recover from this. She would always miss Chloe. How could Elizabeth ever go on? She walked away from the people's stares and walked outside and left the building. She didn't care that she would miss most of her lectures. She just wanted to go home.
