Chapter 10 ~ Californiacation

Max grabbed her bags and waved goodbye to her mother. She walked to her gate and the line was huge. She was panicking. She was alone. About to head to a different state on the other side of the country. She shook it off and boarded. She found her seat. A window seat. Some man sat on the aisle. He could see she was nervous. "Don't like flying?" He said. Max was confused. A strange man she didn't know was talking to her. He looked like early 30s. "Sorry. I don't mean to scare you. I'm sorry I'll just leave you alone". Max sat up. "No just I'm from California originally and I don't particularly like heading back there". The man nodded. "You like to read?" Max nodded in confusion. "Just it's a long flight. I can see you've got music so to distract yourself you want a book?" The man was trying to be kind but it did creep Max out slightly. She took it and smiled as a thank and put her headphones on. Kate Bush blared out her headphones.

The flight had landed. Max was fast asleep. The man tapped her arm. Gently. "Hey umm we've landed". Max woke up and smiled. She grabbed her bags and got off the plane. The sun was blaring down. She waited to grab her case. She found it and headed towards the exit. She walked through to find El sitting there waiting. With Jonathan and Will. And a man with long hair. Max smiled and ran to hug Eleven. "How was the flight?" El asked. "Good. Some guy was trying to talk to me". El looked around. "Hey I'm fine. So what's cool around here?" They all huddled together. "Oh Max this is Argyle. Jonathan's friend". The guy smiled widely. "Sup dude. So your the feisty ginger girl that Will is sometimes afraid of and him". He pointed to Jonathan. "Nice to meet you". She laughed.

They headed to Argyles van. They all sat in it. El in the middle of Will and Max. "So what's the plan for this weekend?" Max asked. "So we are going Rollerskating. Movies. Oo there's a cool skatepark. And the beach. It's so sunny". El was smiling. Max laughed at how happy she was. "First can we stay at your house for the evening. So I can unpack and sleep. And cuddle". She added on as she looked out the window. "I'm sad I'm leaving again on Monday. Promise you'll visit me on Thanksgiving?" Max smiled. El smiled back. "Of course". El leaned on Max's shoulder and the pair were happy. "Ugh you two make me feel so lonely". Will said laughing. "Don't you have a boyfriend?" El said. "Do you see him any where?" Will laughed. Max did too.

They arrived at the house. Joyce and Hopper were watching TV together. Joyce jumped up and hugged Max. "How was the flight? Everything ok?" Max laughed. "It was fine. Just hot. Lot sunnier here". She laughed. Joyce let her go and Hopper waved and smiled. El lead Max to her room. "Ha it's so pretty". She saw the all the different pens and posters. She spotted in a little wooden frame. A picture of the pair the day El left. "You can have to bed. I have a mattress". Max nodded. The girls were just going to do normal things.

The girls woke up and ate breakfast. "So we are going Rollerskating today!" El held Max's hand at the table. Max nodded smiling about how excited El was becoming. Joyce dropped the pair off. They walked inside and music was blaring. Colours everywhere. "You ever done this before?" El asked. "Yeah. You?" El shook her head. "I'm not catching you". Max laughed. El hit her arm and they grabbed skates. Max stood up balancing easily. El tried and nearly fell on multiple occasions. The pair laughed. Max held her hand and guided her to the rink it's self. Max wobbled and quickly managed to balance. El nearly went flying. Max caught her. Their faces were so close. Els leg in the air. Max holding on to her. They stood up quickly blushing. Max held her as El tried to balance. "Why did we come here if you can't balance?" Max barely said whilst laughing. "I don't know. It's cool". El laughed.

On the other side of the rink a group walked in. A blonde girl stood at the front of them all. Angela. "Well well. Seems Jane has a friend after all". They all laughed. They watched as El and Max laughed whilst skating. They waited for a perfect time to 'introduce' themselves. And to study the new girl.

Max rode perfectly around whilst El hung on to her. El slipped and caught her foot on Max and fell into her. They fell landing on each other. The pair laughed. "You ok?" Max laughed. "Yeah. You?" Max nodded. The pair stopped laughing and looked at each other. They remembered where they were. "We should uh". Max helped El up. "Yeah". They looked down smirking and blushing ever so slightly. El began slipping again. "Come here useless". Max grabbed her shoulders and pushed her along. El began leaning the pattern. Eventually Max let her go. She was skating on her own. El smiled. She looked back expecting Max to be holding her. She wasn't. She fell back again. Max shook her head and laughed. "You idiot". Max laughed. "Why'd you let me go?" El asked. "Cause you did it. You can skate". El realised. "I can?!" El shouted. Max nodded smiling proudly. They hugged and finally decided to get a drink and some food. They took their skates of and sat at a booth. "I'll go order". Max jumped up and headed to the desk. Angela skated over Eleven. "Well well. Hi Jane".
