Baby, this is what you came for

"Okay beta! Have a good time!" Malini Acharya said. Aiden stepped out of the car, puling at the neckline of his sherwani. His mom had made him wear one after she'd heard him talking to Brynne about the dance. It was black, with small sequins sewn in all over, making him look like the night sky had dressed him. Shadowfax was in watch form on his wrist, and he pressed the crown on the side to turn it into a camera. Really, the only reason he was here was to take photos for the newspaper. 30 minutes, no longer.

He stepped inside, scents of food and cologne assaulting his senses. The cafeteria was turned into an "enchanted night", with small fake trees from the theatre production show last year spray painted black. Small stars hung from the ceiling, flashing when the lights caught them. Among the stars, something gold caught his eye. There was a lightning bolt, and he had to smile. Aru found a way to put a piece of herself into everything she did. didn't she?

Lightning strikes every time she moves

He looked around, and spotted Brynne waving him over. She was dressed in a powder blue dress that went down to her knees, with a new pair of Converse and her mace, Gogo, in choker form at her throat. Hira was dancing with Sheela and Nikita, and Aiden caught a slight pink tinge on her cheeks.

The first words that  he was supposed to say were, "Hey how are you?" Instead what came out of his mouth was, "Hey, have you seen Aru?"

Brynne smiled, and with a expression that screamed HAVE I seen her?, she pointed into the throng of dancers.

And everybody's watchin' her

Aru was twirling with Mini, in the center of the dance floor, laughing. She wore a gold lehenga, the same one she'd worn to her birthday party, with lightning bolt patterns embroidered all over. The bodice hugged her curves, and Aiden really wanted to grab her waist and dance with her. The golden earrings he'd gifted her hung from her earlobes, one a small lightning bolt and the other a camera. He'd doubted she'd actually understand his gift, but he gave it to her anyway, maybe as a compromise to his heart because he was so in love with her.

Her brown eyes met his, and her lips parted slightly as she stopped twirling to look at him. Aiden could feel her eyes rove over him, his black sherwani suddenly feeling very snug around his neck. A flush appeared on her cheeks as she realized she was staring, and a smile graced his lips. 

He walked toward her, crossing the dance floor to stand behind her. Mini, apparently taking the hint, walked away to stand with Brynne, her expression twisted into one of excitement. Aiden grabbed Aru's hips, and, spinning her into his arms, he said, "Like what you see, Shah?"

She gaped at him, her face heating up. Aiden could barely see it (curse Indian skin for being so dark) but he sure could feel it when she threw her arms around him in a bear hug.

"I missed you, Wifey." she mumbled into his sherwani, and he smiled.

BONUS:

Mini slid a ten into Brynne's hand, sighing loudly.

"I told you he could do it." Brynne said to her sister, waving the ten like a war prize. "Never doubt me, the BRYNNERWINNER!!!"

Mini stared at her, then hysterically burst out laughing. "That sounds like a gamertag," she wheezed, tears pouring out of her eyes.

Brynner pouted, crossing her arms. A figure caught her eye, and she smirked.

"Well well, It's Mini's-"

"BRYNNE I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL-"

Brynne carefully tapped her choker, and Gogo slid into her palm. She sent a gentle wind gust behind Mini, and she flew across the floor. Mini tripped on her own two feet, and saw the figure catch her.

"Two ships have sailed from the docks today! My business here is done-"

As shew was waling out, a hand grabbed her wrist. Turning to see Hira, she flushed gently.

"H-hey Hira! W-What's-"

"Did you think you could leave without saving me a dance?" Hira questioned, a flush also gracing her features. Brynne smiled at her friend's (😏) face, and pulled them onto the dance floor.
