"So, what, another night of kicking through leaves in the woods?" Kate said as she strutted into her brother's office.

"I prefer to think of it as another night of trying to keep innocent people from being killed," Chris said, leaning against his desk.  "A list which now includes my daughter."

"How do we know it won't try going after her again?" one of their men asked.

"It won't go after Allison," Kate said, inspecting the rifle in her hands.

"It won't have any target at all, not on a full moon," Chris explained.

            "How come?"

"An Alpha is like any other werewolf on a full moon.  It struggles under its sway, which means tonight is our best chance to catch it, when it's unfocused."

Chris pressed the tip of his dagger onto a point of a map spread out of his desk.

"Yeah, but what if it has a reason to stay focused?" Kate questioned.

"Do you know something we don't?" Chris countered.

"I just don't like surprises," she replied.  "But you're the expert, so you tell me."

            "What about Derek?"

"He's smarter than that," Kate said.  "He won't be out tonight.  There's cops everywhere."

"And if for some reason he is..." Chris started.

"If he is," his wife cut him off, standing in the doorway with a plate of cookies in one hand, "you find him, you kill him, you cut him in half."  She smiled.  "Anybody want a cookie?"

Allison took a bite of a brownie as Jackson sat down next to her in the cafeteria.  She smiled as Jackson chuckled.

"Oh, you got something on your..." He trailed off, looking at piece of brownie stuck on the corner of Allison's lip.  "Let me."  He reached out and slid his finger across her lip, picking up the brownie piece.  Allison laughed as Jackson licked it off his finger.

"Thanks," she said.  "You want the bite?"

            Jackson stared at her, confused.

            "What?"

"Do you want a bite?" Allison asked again, gesturing to her brownie.

"Oh," Jackson sighed in relief.  "No.  Thanks."

He rubbed the back of his neck where the claw wounds were.

"Are you doing okay?" Allison questioned, concerned.  "I mean, since the other night?"

"Better than I thought I would be," he replied.  "You still thinking about everything that happened?"

"Mostly about Scott.  I haven't talked to him."

            "Probably a good idea."

"You don't think I made a mistake, do you?" she asked.

"No.  In fact, I think he got exactly what he deserves."
