Cassie shuffled through the mail she had just received for the Tower, besides the usual junk mail and a few bills she received a package addressed to her. Which was odd because she didn't remember ordering herself anything. She sighed and placed the mail in its place, and grabbed a box cutter to open the package.
She knew it wasn't a bomb or anything poisonous, thanks to the scanner she has in the mailbox, it's surprising how many packages she gets in the mail with some sort of dangerous weapon. She hated it, so she took precautions.
Her brows furrowed, in the box was a single deck of cards. Regular playing cards with the note "For my plaything" on the back of it. Her stomach dropped.
She opened the deck, and laid out the cards, laying them out how they were in the box. One letter per card. Most were in regular black, but the ones that were bright red spelled: "C U S O O N V".
She said it out loud, "See you soon V. V? Who- shit." She quickly threw the cards back in the box, and took them outside, throwing the cards into the incinerator.
"Shit shit shit," she started pacing. "He knows I'm in San Fran, that's- I mean that's fine- that's fine. It's cool. He's in Arkham, actually, let me check that. Shit shit shit."
She took off back upstairs, heading towards the tech room. She immediately started pulling up the Arkham files she kept. Security cameras, guard schedules, visitor logs, everything digital in Arkham she had access to, whether they knew it or not wasn't really a concern for her.
She pulled up the camera for his cell, still there. But she called in an anonymous tip that he was planning a breakout and to double his security.
No one was permitted to see him, so she didn't know how he got his word to her, but she wasn't taking any chances.
"Cassie? Why are you watching the Joker?" Gar asked, walking in with Conner.
Cassie typed a few more things, "Oh just checking up on things, making sure he's where he's supposed to be."
Conner nodded, looking at the screen, "Do you do that for all criminals?"
"I'd never have the time to do anything but that, so no."
"So why are you checking on him?" Gar took the seat next to her, pulling up a few different tabs.
She closed out her more confidential files and locked the rest of her Arkham file, "Special circumstance. The more dangerous criminals sometimes require special watch. The Joker is a prime example."
"Oh well we can help," Conner smiled and took the third chair, typing in a few things too. "But if he's already in prison I'm not entirely sure what to do."
Cassie smiled, "Sorry kiddos, there really isn't much else to do when it comes to him. I've got my system doing most of the work, just needed to make a few adjustments. But something you two can do is start researching that new drug that's been hitting the streets. Find out where it's coming from and who's behind it?"
Both kids nodded and pulled up the working file. She smiled again, got up, and kissed both their foreheads. "I'm proud of you two, you know?"
"We love you too Cassie!"
"Love you!"
She chuckled at their responses and left them to work.
A few days later Gar had gone to check the mail, only because his new controller had come in, and just grabbed the rest of it while he was down there. "Hey Cassie! You've got like three packages!"
