El ran inside and her mom was sitting in the couch with her pink, fluffy robe. Her arms were crossed and she had a stern look on her face.
"You are late young lady." She said getting off the couch.
"I know I'm sorry, I just got caught up with Finney and-."
"Who said I was mad?" She walked closer to Liz.
"Well you just looked-."
"I'm not mad, just worried. I don't want you to get taken from me again."
"I won't, I'm staying here."
"So you and Finney? Did he ask you to the dance?"
El tried to trick her mom, by frowning. "Yes!" She smiled and giggled jumping up and down celebrating.
"Ooo, my babies going to her first school dance with a boy!" She said giving El a hug.
"Don't make this awkward." El said laughing.
"Now go to bed, it's late." She said brushing the hair out of El's face.
El ran upstairs, changing into her pjs and fell asleep thinking of what had happened tonight.
All night she was dreaming, good dreams. A few about her and Finney at the dance.
Finney had went home to see Gwen in bed sleeping peacefully. He didn't want to wake her but he really wanted to tell her.
"Gwen, Gwen." He whispered lightly shaking her.
"What?" She said rubbing her eyes as she slowly sat up.
"I asked El to the dance."
She got up quickly. "You did?!"
"Yeah."
"What'd she say?"
"Yes."
"Oh my gosh Finney, you've got a girlfriend!" She said teasing.
"Not yet." He said quietly.
"Mhm, okay so tomorrow I'm taking El dress shopping at the boutique downtown." She said all excited. "Now let me get my beauty sleep lover boy." She said lying back down. He walked to his room and changed into he's pjs and then had fallen asleep.
Early the next morning Gwen had called El, asking to go dress shopping later. They both agreed to go around 11 if it was okay with El's mom.
Her mom approved and she went to go get ready. She took a quick shower and then braided a few tiny pieces of her long wavy hair. Picking out a short red button up with flowers that she tied at the bottom with bell bottoms, Finneys jacket and her navy blue converse. Her mom gave her some money and she ran out the door at just 10:55. The Blake's house was only about 3 minutes away so she was able to be there before 11.
"Hey El!" Gwen said opening the door. "Come in!"
She motioned for El to come inside. Finney was sitting in the couch watching tv.
"Hey Finney." El said nervously.
"Hey El." They both were blushing and couldn't look at each other.
"You know you guys are going to have to look at each other at some point." Gwen said rolling her eyes.
"Yeah sorry." El apologized.
"So me and El are going dress shopping we'll be back in a bit!" Gwen grabbed her bag and pulled El out of her house.
El was able to get out a quick, "bye Finney!" Before she was pulled out.
While walking to downtown El and Gwen were talking about girl stuff and what type of dress El wants. El was thinking of a dark navy blue dress that was about knee length in the front and longer in  the back.
"Finney is going to be completely mesmerized when you walk through those doors. He won't even be able to speak!" Gwen said all excited. El smiled and giggled. "You know he's like totally in love with you." She said smiling. "He talks about you all the time. Like literally. All. The. Time." El smiled and then they walked through the boutique doors.
The girls were in wonderland. El wasn't a girly girl but when it comes to shopping she loves it.
"Holy shit." El said admiring a long dark green dress. "You must have to be like a princess to wear that." She said giggling.
"What if we had a fashion show?" The two girls ran around grabbing random things in the store and ran to the dressing room. Nancy Sinatra's 'These boots are made for walking' came through the speakers. The girls were wearing mismatched items with big funky hats and jewelry. El was wearing high heels but they weren't so high. El was walking like a drunk lady coming out of the bar. She couldn't walk or stand up properly. Gwen tried to show her how it's done, but Gwen wasn't any better.
They had both fallen on the floor giggling. Singing to Nancy's music. They both got up and got ready for round two.
El picked out a orange dress with weird sleeves and a big pink hat with green jewels. Gwen had a hot pink dress, which was very poofy, with a yellow lace hat and a bright red necklace that had matching dangling earrings. 'Stayin alive' began to play and the girls sang along, customers turning their heads to see the commotion. They were all annoyed but the two girls didn't care. They were having so much fun. They continued trying in dresses for fun until they found the ones. El met eyes with a a-line dark navy blue dress with the shorter in the front just how she wanted it.

The lady at the front adjusted the neckline making it not so low. Then she tried it on. She had came out to show Gwen while 'Imagine' by John Lennon came on. Gwen was stunned. She loved it and she knew Finney would too. She was speechless, it was so perfect. 'Imagine all the people' "You look stunning. Wow." Gwen loved it and she just couldn't believe how elegant El had looked. El spun around holding her skirt.
"It's perfect." El said smiling. It was different then everyone else's dresses and the classic prom dresses. It was unique just like El.
"Finney is going to oh my lord, he's going to love this." Gwen said stuttering on her words. El smiled going back into the dressing room.
"Wait!" The lady who adjusted her dress exclaimed. "I have to take a picture, you look absolutely stunning." El came back out and stood there and smiled. The Polaroid camera took a picture. Slowly coming out of the slot. The lady flapped the Polaroid trying to get all the color. She handed El the picture to keep.
"Thank you." El went back and changed out of the dress. Carrying it out to the waiting area, meeting back with Gwen. "Your turn Gwen!" El said sitting on a little soft poof. Gwen had picked out a light blush pink lace dress.

El knew it was perfect for Gwen and couldn't wait to see her in it

El knew it was perfect for Gwen and couldn't wait to see her in it.
"Holy shit!" Gwen came out with her hair taken out of the two braids giving her hair a little wave. "You look amazing." El told her.
Gwen spun to the side holding her skirt with both hands, "you think?" She said smiling.
"Yeah, you're going to make all the boys jaw drop to the floor." El complemented her.
The lady came back over to take a picture of Gwen in her dress, handing Gwen the picture. "You two young ladies are stunning! I wish you the best at the dance." She said as we walked over to the register. Luckily they had just the right amount. The lady put the two dresses in separate garment bags and handed them to the girls. Gwen's mom before she passed had handed down Gwen some heels that she wore for her first school dance when she was her age. Gwen decided that she was going to wear those with her necklace.
El didn't know what she was going to wear for shoes. Her mom had a bunch of heels but she can barely walk in them.
The two girls walked back to the Blake's house and hung out for a little bit, talking about boys which was a little awkward talking to Gwen about her own brother.
"I should probably get going." El said looking at her yellow wrist watch.
"Alright see you later El!" Gwen called out as El walked down the stairs.
Finney was sitting on the tv still watching tv. "Hey Finn."
"Hey El." Finney took a gulp.
"Meet me at the diner at 6. Okay?" El told Finney.
"Y-yes." Finney stuttered. Finney felt comfortable around El unlike everyone else. Finney was awkward, a nerd and very antisocial but once you get to know him he comes out of his shell. Now Finney was nervous around her. He didn't want to do anything stupid to embarrass himself.
"Finney..." El sat down next to him in the couch. "You don't have to be nervous around me you know. I'm not going anywhere." She said looking at Finney beside her.
He smiled, just by her saying that a weight was lifted off his shoulders.
"Now you better meet me at the dinner in 30." She said leaning towards him.
