“We are sorry for the inconvenience we caused you” I said for the twelfth time that day

I said while pushing Aqua down with my left hand making her bow with me

“It was just an misunderstanding  kazuma-san no need to apologise further” iris said while Rain Sheepishly nodded next to her

“Yes kazuma-san no need to apologize further, I should be the one who should be apologizing since it was because of my mistake that this whole mess got created” Rain said bowing slightly to me , making me again feel grateful that I was dealing with her and not Claire

Claire had been the first one to arrive at the scene but was thankfully been distracted by Darkness till now
According to Rain she had sent the message that he was safe and sound via normal means via the guild in the capital

But it had gotten lost somewhere due to chaos created by the latest attack from demon kings army

I let go of Aqua next to me and asked for the permission to leave as I searched for the brown head of hair in all the chaos of guards and bystander maids and butlers

She had left my sight when iris had arrived and let the matter go

It was a good thing that iris was currently the person of highest position in the castle currently, as the faces some of the guards and bystanders made after my teams little stunt I was sure we would have been severely punished if not straight up declared an enemy to the crown
I came face to face with one of those guards in my search of the brunette

Her lips curled into a small sneer when I asked if she knew the whereabouts of the mage who had spearheaded the charge into the castle, but she did tell me that she had seen her leave from the gate on the left

I followed her trail while asking various guards and maids and soon learned that she had left the castle and was heard asking about the path that lead to capitals entrance

Something which I couldn’t wrap my head around at first but after a few seconds of thinking it made perfect sense to me

I started to make my way outside of the the caste and asked a merchant if there was any abandoned castle or a big hill in the area

I soon found myself at the gates of the capital and from there to a dirt road leading through the forest

I didn’t have to wait long in my search as I soon heard the sound of the magic spell that I have become quite used to at this point

I could see a big dust cloud in shape of a mushroom a little ahead to my right and with it the sight of several birds flying away from this new found danger

Making my way through the tree line I soon came across the target of my search

I heard her groan and then say from her position on the ground

“I had hoped you wouldn’t have followed me here, but alas it can’t be helped”

“that one was quite different from your usual explosions, it had more power in it but it still wasn’t as effective as your smaller ones” I said ignoring what she had uttered

I noticed how she didn’t ask how I had known I would find her here

Same way I didn’t ask her how she knew it was me without even looking

“and why are you still lying on the ground , why didn’t you use that pendent” I continued when she didn’t reply

“I didn’t want to” came Megumin’s short reply

She slowly turned herself so she was now lying sideways , facing towards me

“you know I got in quite a situation because of you just now , so you wanna tell me why you three decided to break in to one of the most guarded places in the country in broad day light?!” I asked as a little bit of anger from earlier seeped into my voice

“Ho? I explain?! You are the one who needs the explaining to do mister! You broke your promise and it hasn’t been even a month” she shot back

“I didn’t do anything like that, Aren’t you taking that a little to literally-”

“Am I?”

Megumin looked at me with a look before she closed her eyes and exhaled

After a few seconds of silence she opened them again and muttered something along the lines of “this will get us no where”

“Since you asked first, when you suddenly disappeared with the princess it made us Panic, nothing was clear so we thought that maybe Darkness’s apology hadn’t been enough and maybe they had taken you for some sort of punishment
The worst one was Aqua surprisingly , she kept muttering how she won’t ever go back to heaven and how she was doomed to stay on earth for all eternity , whatever that meant, but we were able to calm her down and decided to make our way to capital-”

“and 'rescue me’” I interjected

“No, we decided that we will simply have Darkness use her status as a noble do the work and have her talk with the princess again to get you out , but we did decide that if all else failed and you were in serious danger we would try to get you out by force” megumin continued hearing which I was a little stunned

I had been annoyed with the matter up until now since it did make things difficult for me

But hearing things from megumin’s end and thinking from their angle made things different

Would he have done the same if megumin and his positions were switched?

He will not tell to anyone , even under threat from the demon king , but he knew what he would do

Or what he wouldn’t do

Megumin’s voice broke me from my thoughts as she continued her tale

“it took us a week to get here since neither yunyun or wiz had a teleportation marker set for the capital, and all the while I could only get more and more  worried that what if we were too late…” she closed her eyes and then took a shaky breath and then continued again

“But when of the guards at the gate halted us and didn’t believe Darkness Aqua decided to switch to the emergency plan and punched the guard”

My hand found my forehead as I face palmed

“of course she did” I muttered slowly

“after which we tried to stop her but by the time we caught up with her it was too late and so we just had to fight our way through, and after running through so many corridors , I found you in the most luxurious of the guest rooms…”

Knowing how this looked I tried to clear it up

But I when I tried to open my mouth I didn’t know what to tell her

“this is all Chris’s fault , her and her stupid mission”

I said deciding that maybe the truth was the best way to make her understand.

‘and mine who thought it was a good idea to take it’ remained unsaid

“So you are telling me you decided to take this mission, even though you knew how dangerous it was, without even having any proof that this object existed other than Chris words”
