Chapter eight

Demetri Volturi POV

Felix came with me, opening the gate and my bedroom door. I laid Hayley on my bed as she suffered. Felix sat on the sofa next to me. I stared at Hayley.

“Ah shit, it hurts!” she cried.

I didn't like to hear and feel her pain. For my part I tolerated it but I knew that Hayley felt much worse.

"Felix, go get Alec. I need him. Hurry up.”

Felix disappeared and it was only about thirty seconds later that he returned with Alec. I turned to him.

“Can you use your gift? She has suffered enough, I feel her pain. I wish she could stop suffering a little."

Alec stared at us.

“I have no problem with that.”

Alec walked over to the bed and took a seat next to Hayley, he stared at her for a few seconds and put his hand on her arm.

Suddenly the pain in me was interrupted while my partner was no longer in pain. She stood there and stared at the blood on her hand. Its smell challenged us all but knowing that she was changing, biting her was not our first desire.

“Why am I no longer in pain?” She asked.

Alec raised a hand and she was staring at him.

“I have the gift of anesthesia. Basically, I deal with a person's senses, but cutting out the pain is also part of my abilities as long as I have physical contact with you.”

“You were the one in the shop with Demetri?”

“ Indeed.”

Hayley sighed. She sat down and stared at me.

"He doesn't tend to let people prepare, does he?" 

She was talking about Aro.

“Aro does not waste his time. You wish to be changed, he has good reason to do so. He does it without wasting time.”

Hayley let out a groan. I felt a tingle in my chest.

“The venom has reached your heart. I can dull the pain but not the venom, it still does its effect on you.“ Alec said.

Hayley sighed and I saw her skin turning pale and her heart beating hard. She was sighing and huffing and I could feel from the distance I was standing that her breath was starting to cool. She let out a hollow cough.

“In general, how long does it last?” she asked shivering.

“It varies from person to person. Between a few hours and three days.”

Hayley's eyes widened at my response.

“Three days?” 

“We witnessed some transformations, me and my twin. It goes much faster for you. Some had it for three days but we believe it was a response from their bodies fighting off the venom. You, your body has no more immune defense and the venom is gaining momentum much faster..." Mentioned Alec.
