The next morning maddox sat at the table. He know what had to be done. Marcus sat on the side of him. He was busy eating to notice his father watching him.
Charmaine came down the stairs. She didn't care about being quiet. Her head felt like it was being hit over and over again with a hammer. She came around the wall and shielded her eyes from the sun glowing in from the glass window above the door.
"Ahh! Someone turn the light out. It's too bright." She stumbled over to the table with her hand still covering her eyes. She sat down.
"Hi daddy. Marcus."
"Hi little one. Did you have a good night?" Maddox laughs gently at his daughter. She was hungover. Very much so.
"Yes daddy, ugh my head hurts."
"Here, drink some orange juice. Little one you know you're not allowed to drink for a little while right?"
Charmaine nodded her head and chugged down her drink.
"Charmaine there was something I what to talk to you about." Maddox had gotten serious.
"Mhm, yea." Charmaine was a little distracted shoving food onto her plate.
"Now I know this is sudden but I believe it's for the best. You are going to be chief." Charmaine stopped moving altogether when she heard what her father said.
"What! No, I can't be chief. You still here and I thought the twins would be chief not me."
"Charmaine this is for the best. I have watched you grow into a beautiful young woman and a amazing chef. Yanu are going to be perfect for chief little one. I have already talked to marcus and he agrees with me." Marcus finally looked up from his plate.
"This that why you're so quiet. It's very unlike you brothers." Marcus smiled.
"Well, I told father it was a good idea but you wouldn't go for it. Your little sister would be an amazing chef. Just like father said." Marcus meant what he had said. He knows his sister won't want to be chief.
She believe their father would always be chief. Nothing was going to happen to him, right?
"But father, you are the only chief and you're going to be chief for a lot longer." Charmaine had never called maddox father unless she was serious.
"What is this about really about daddy." She know he wouldn't bring this up unless something was happening, but she couldn't figure out what it was about.
"It's nothing little cub." Maddox started to stand up. He know if he stayed any longer he would tell her everything. So he chooses to run away. "I have work that needs to be done. I will see you for dinner." He was out the door in under a minute.
Charmaine watched her father run out of the room. She was confused. He she said something to upset him? Was not being happy about being chief wrong of her?
"Marcus, do you know what that was about?"
Marcus didn't look up from his plate. "No, but he right you know. People are going to start wondering we their chief never ages. He has been on that throne for 25 years charmaine. It's time he steps down." After talking marcus stood and walked back to his room.
Charmaine sat in silence for a minute trying to figure out what was going on. When her head started to pound again, she deiced to go lay down. She trudged up to her room, falling into the wall.
