The Lodge

"Are we there yet?" Garroth asks again, he's been asking non-stop for the past hour.

"No" Lucinda responds, I really don't know how she manages to keep her calm, I would be so frustrated by now.

"You would be" Es chuckles in my head, I try to keep my face neutral, my usually great poker face cracking slightly from the long journey.

"Your imaginary friend again baby sister?" Garroth asks, stopping his questioning, at least that got him to shut up.

I nod, Kim sends me a smile as Garroth goes back to his non-stop chatter.

"You really need a better poker face, it'll seem strange if you start making faces to yourself in public," Es sounds amused, at least someone got some entertainment out of that.

"Well they all assume you're imaginary" I grumble. Despite what everyone thinks-and what I've told them- Es isn't an imaginary friend, they're actually there, in my head.

"Stop!" Lucinda suddenly shouts, glaring at Garroth and Kim, she seems to have joined in, "Aaron, can you believe them?!"

"Huh sorry," Aaron laughs, "I put my earbuds in about an hour ago."

Lucinda seems close to her limit, I reach through to the front to turn up the radio, hopefully it would drown out Garroth.

A familiar song comes up, it should distract him, I go back to my mental conversation with Es.

I sigh, it's going to be a long few hours.

Time Skip

"We're here," I hear Aaron say, Es' chatter finally dies down as we get out of the car.  Carefully, we unload our suitcases, while taking in the view of the lodge.

It's tall, I'll give it that, it's built nicely, with neatly stacked wooden logs and stone, it looks like it could have used to been a nice place. However, now it looks, not exactly unsafe, but there is an unkept feel to it. It looks abandoned.

"Kiara, there's something wrong about this place," Es warns me. "Something bad might happen, stay on guard."

A sudden wave of cold air hits me, I shiver and pull down the sleeves of my green sweater even more.

"Well, here we are" Garroth cheers, he doesn't seem to be even slightly tired.

"This place is a-" Aaron starts.

"Total dump" Lucinda finishes.

"Huh," Garroth questions, shaking his head "I don't understand, our parents said this place was fantastic!"

"Judging by the looks of things this place was fantastic,"  Aaron looks up at the building, "but that was years ago." He trails off.

"Ugh, now do you see why I thought this entire thing was fishy," I sigh.

I walk towards the lodge to give it a light kick to see if it would fall, it didn't. Thank Irene.

"Good luck explaining it if it did" Es smirks, "try not to cause too much damage."

"You're the one causing all the damage," I retort.

"It did sound too good to be true Garroth," Kim speaks up, dragging me back to the present.

"Yeah but- I don't know, it sounded awesome getting to be paid to vacation" Garroth says walking up to check the lodge beside me.

"Hardly anything is really as good as it seems" Es sinks into some deep memory again.
