Outside the popular beach towns in Delaware is Sea May. Unlike those towns, the majority of the townsfolk stay all year round. Generations have been raised in the town while others have moved to get away from their old lives. Many residents warn of the mysterious island, Poseidon's Peak, off the coast. However, most of the young adult population don't listen. They travel to the island and survive the night to either say that they did or they dared to.
James Quint is not only new to the country but new to the town of Sea May. Following his parents' divorce, he wants normalcy as much as possible. However, that doesn't happen when he gets wrapped in with the Ward-Austen siblings.
Maeve Ward-Austen hasn't been the same ever since their visit to Poseidon's Peak. They quit their band, they've been sneaking out late and keeping to themself. This is due to Poseidon's Peak cursing them to have their legs transform into a fish tail anytime they touch water. Now, their life is centered on not letting anyone find out. However, by accident, their little brother, KJ, and the new boy, James, find out.
With this secret on all of their shoulders, they are stuck together but discover that maybe they need each other.
