Pride. It can cloud your mind in an instant. But for most people it's not like that. That was my thought when I thought about the greasers. I've seen them around town once or twice. I mean I spend a good amount of time locked up in my room, terrified about what would be waiting for me outside of my door. Most nights I couldn't even get a good night's sleep because my parents were yelling. That's why today I decided to get out of the house. I opened up my window and climbed through it. Then I closed it up and started to take a walk. It was sunny outside. About 85, 90 degrees. It wasn't so hot where you had to wear a tank top but not too cold to wear an oversized hoodie. As I walked around I saw a lot of things. But when I was walking, I saw a lady walking her little pomeranian. I was walking on the right side and she was walking on the left. But when we locked eyes, she looked me up and down like I was a show freak. But I got that look a lot. I mean I had long brown wavy hair and a leather jacket on, which showed, greaser girl.

When I got that look it seemed like I had something to be ashamed of. But the pride of being a greaser to me meant a lot to me. After a while I headed into town. I decided to stop by a DX to buy something to drink. As I walked in I heard a bell on the door ring. I glanced over at the cashier and he seemed too young to be working a job. It seemed like he was about 17. And aren't 17 year olds supposed to be in school? But I didn't judge. I had to drop out of the school the day I turned 16. As I scoured through the store I finally found an energy drink suiting my needs. When I went to ring up my drink, I threw a pack of cigarettes on the counter. As the boy was ringing me up he looked at me up and down. But not like the woman on the street. "Hey aren't you supposed to be in school?" He asked. I grind. "Aren't you?" I replied. He chuckled.

"No, no. I dropped out of school a while ago," he said. He handed me my items. "22.85." I started to reach into my pocket for the cash. "So why aren't you in school?" He questioned. I handed him the cash. "Same. Parents couldn't take me anymore," I replied. Then I cracked open the can and held it up. "Cheers to high school dropouts," I declared. He nodded and I took a sip. Then we heard the doorbell ring. Be both glanced over to see who walks in. It was another 17 year old boy who had grease all over his face and buck teeth. He looked at me up and down just like the first boy did. "Are you a greaser girl?" He asked. I looked him up and down as well. "Well I'm not a preppy rich kid," I replied. I could hear the first boy chuckle under his breath. The second boy smirked. "Well alright then," the greasy boy said. Then I picked up my pack of cigarettes and opened it up to pull one out. Then I procured to light it. I turned back to the cute boy.

"Well I will see you boys around sometime," I said. As I started to walk out, the cute boy spoke out. "Wait!" He hollard. I turned around. I saw him hop over the counter and took the pack of cigarettes out of my hand. He opened it up and took out a pen. He wrote something on it and handed it back. "You can stop by sometime... maybe after my shift?" He said. I smiled and replied, "Definitely. Anything to get me out of the house." "Then alright then." After I walked out of the door and started to head back home. As I was walking, I was puffing out smoke. Then I thought about what the boy had said. How would I even meet up with him? But then I thought back to the cigarette package. I took it out my pocket and opened the flap and read what was there. It was his address with a time on top. End of shift: 3:30. Then I started to get butterflies in my stomach. Am I really getting swooned over a boy I just met? I don't even know his name.

But when I got home I saw that the car wasn't in the driveway. I thought it would be safe to walk through the front door. As I opened it I saw my dad on the couch watching t.v. His clothes were filthy and flies were all around him. It seemed like there was a red stain on his shirt. It could have been ketchup or blood but I didn't want to find out. If it was blood I should make my escape plan right there and then. He smelled beer and Jin. It was really hard to ignore the smell. He looked at me like I was a stranger. "When did you get out of the house?" He asked. "A while ago," I said, softly. "What did you say?" He said, raising his voice. "A few hours ago I didn't know," I said, getting frustrated. Then fear struck me right in the heart. My hands started to shake and sweet. I could feel my legs trembling, almost giving out. He slowly got off the couch and approached me. In fear, I took a small step back. I could smell his pickled breath. I wanted to go to my room but the closer he got the more he pushed me back to the wall.

"Don't you... EVER raise your VOICE at your FATHER," he said. I was too scared to answer so I looked away. But instead pulled out my cigarettes, grabbed my face and forced me to look at him and his beady eyes. "DO YOU UNDERSTAND CHILD?!" He yelled. A tear rolled down my face and I nodded. He let go of my face and slapped it hard. Then he pointed his finger at me. "Don't you ever step out of this house without me knowing." Then I looked back at him. I saw he was calming down a bit then went to my room and slammed the door. I put my back against it and slid down it. I looked at the clock and it was 3:47. I thought about the boy from the DX and started to smile. I wiped the tears away and got up. I grabbed a small bag and started to fill it with things. Some undergarments, a flannel jacket, leather jacket, crop top, jeans, jean shorts, some shades, and a blade. The blade may have seemed unnecessary but if you're a greaser walking the streets, you would understand.

After I got everything backed I took the bag with me and hopped out of the window. When I closed it, I took out the cigarette pack and looked at the address. It seemed not that far away so it wouldn't be a dreadful walk. After about 7 minutes I finally arrived at their house. Before I went inside I lit a cigarette and knocked on the door. I could hear some gasps and tussling through the door. When someone was turning the doorknob I could hear people laughing. But when the door opened it was the pretty boy from DX. "Hey," I said. For a second he looked surprised and then said, "Hey."
