I got quiet. No one has ever said that. The only thing I've ever heard was, "I hope you don't burn." I looked at Two-bit with sad eyes. "Two-bit..." I started. He started to sit up and cut me off. "You know. I think the feeling is neutral," he said. I started to get confused again. "What do you mean?" I asked. He smiled. "Do you really want to hear what happend?" He asked me. I nodded. "When your parents hurt you... Soda said he would do anything to get back at your parents. When you walked out he wanted to go with you but we all said he shouldn't. I guess we were wrong. When you were in the street bleeding, Darry and Dally had to hold him back. Steve and I ran up to you. When I looked back at Soda he was on his knees almost crying. Then he yelled, 'Steve... please... tell me she's alive... she can't be dead.' Then Steve said you were at least breathing and that you might make it," he said.

He stopped for a moment. It seemed like he felt guilty for what happend. "When Steve said 'at least breathing' there was hope in his eyes. But... then when he said 'might'... he shed a tear. For the first time since Sandy... he cared about someone else. You." I sat there for a moment trying to grasp all of what Two-bit said. "You're lying," I slowly said. "Coco... are you afraid of someone caring about you?" Tow-bit asked. I just stared at him. I heard the door open. I turned around to see the boys walking in. "Two-bit you look tuff. What happened?" Steve asked, sitting on the couch next to him. "Got cut. You should see the Soc," Two-bit commented. Everyone laughed. Then Soda came back out. "Come on guys I'm starving, let's go get something to eat," Soda demanded. "Ok, let's go," Dally said. "Woah woah," Darry said.

We all came to a haunt. We looked at him with anticipating eyes. "Two people just got jumped in less that two days. They need rest for the rumble," Darry said. Soda just helped Steve and Two-bit up. "Come on Darry we can go get something to eat it's not that hard," Two-bit trying to convince him. Darry sighed. "Fine. But if you too start to feel off, we are coming back," he demanded. The boys started to jump up, laugh and cheer. Soda came over and put his arm around me. "Come on, you're going to love our favorite hang out," he said. I laughed. "I bet I will," I replied. As we walked out, the boys were still laughing and cheering. I jumped out of my skin when Steve did a flip off the car. "How did you know how to do that?" I asked him. Steve just laughed.

"Darry was a gymnast for a while and taught us a few things," Soda explained. "Could you do a tricks?" Dally asked me. "Yeah," I responded. "Good. It would mess with our mojo if you didn't," Dally said. I laughed. "Oh come on guys," Soda said.

By the time I stopped talking to Soda, we were already at the diner. When we sat down. Dally couldn't shut up about the rumble. "Would you keep it down street rat," Two-bit said. I could tell when they called each other "hoods" and "street rats", it was fine. But when the Socs said it, it would throw them off their rockers. "You know what, I'll shut up when I want to," he replied. Even though we were only going for lunch, we stayed there until it hit sundown. We started to walk back before it got too dark. When we walked back it started to get a bit too chilly for my liking. I had to blow hot into my hands to keep me warm. "Hey you chilly?" Sodapop asked. "No I'm fine," I shivered. Soda took off his jacket and put it around me. "There," he said. We both smiled. I started to blush and get butterflies. Maybe he did care about me.

Afterwards, we finally reached the house. But when we got to the porch, Soda and Steve left. Out of the blue. I didn't really care why, it just seemed like they were going to do something important. Hours passed, Steve and Soda hadn't returned. It got dark. I started to get worried. I sat on the couch. Anytime I started to think Soda got jumped, it seemed like I smelled his jacket. It smelled like gas station food, gas, grease, and milk chocolate. I couldn't tell if the chocolate was from the cake or the milk he drinks in the morning. When my legs started to turn stiff I passed around the room, hoping that they would enter. Then I just kept on thinking about what Two-bit said about Soda, almost crying when I was jumped. Another hour passed and there was finally a knock at the door. When I opened the door, Steve brushed past me and went inside. I looked to see if Soda was with him. But he was just standing there in the yard and the cold.

"Soda what are you going? Come inside," I said. He just kept standing there with determination on his face. I went out on the porch and closed the door. "What are you doing?" I asked. He just stayed silent. "Coco..." he said. He straightened his posture and started to hold his breath. "Ok here we go," he said. I was confused. "Coco, I have liked you since the day I met you. I think it's hot when you work on motorcycles and you have just a bit of a bust on your head. I notice when you get worried that you start to overthink things, that you get something of theirs and you play with it. I am guessing that's what you were doing with my jacket. I love how you take care of everyone. How you helped Darry. How you got along with Dally. How you bandaged Two-bit up. Steve already likes you. And how you made me fall in love with you."

I was shocked. Even if Soda did care about me, I never thought he would come and say it out loud. "I can tell you sympathize with Johnny and you helped us stop the Socs from jumping Pony. When I was in your room I could tell you didn't like to read but you liked rocks bands. And by the way you're looking at me I can tell you might not believe me." I started to walk towards him. My feelings were going haywire. I started to get extreme butterflies, nothing like I've ever before and I was turning red like a tomato. "But Coco Hutson you make my head spin," he finished. I looked up at him. He finally let go of his breath and waited for an answer. I went up on my tippy toes and got close to his ear. "I like you too, you idiot," I whispered.

As I went back down on my feet, I could tell Soda was shocked. But after a few seconds he pulled me in by my waist and leaned down. He put his hands on my face and gave me a soft kiss on the lips. "Now a pretty lady like you can't stay out in the cold for very long," he said. "Is that so?" I responded. He nodded. Then before I knew it Soda picked me up bridal style and carried me inside. As I held on to him, we both kept on giggling. When we got inside all the boys were sitting doing nothing. I could tell they were hiding something. I looked at Dally, I could tell he had something on his mind. When I looked at the window that was facing the yard, it was open. I looked at Soda. We were both thinking the same thing. "Were you guys watching?" I asked them. They all were denying it. As Soda put me down I started to death glared them, gtrying to get the real answer out. I looked at Two-bit.

I stared at him until he looked scared. "We were ok. Please don't kill us," he pleated. Dally got up and came up to me. He put me in a head lock and ruffed up my hair. "Coco's got a boyfriend," Dally said. When he stopped, he looked at Soda. He mumbled something and looked back at me. "I got to go kid," he said, putting his hand on my shoulder. "See you bright and early." When he walked out the door all the boys got up. Two-bit and Steve said they were happy for us as they walked out the door. Darry was looking at us with a big grin on his face. "I'm happy for you too but we need to get some shut eye," he said.

We walked to Soda room and just fell on the bed. I just had the energy to take off my socks and shoes. I looked over to see that Soda also took his shoes and shirt. "Are you ready for the rumble?" I asked him. He stroked my hair back behind my ear. "Yeah but I don't think you should fight," he said. I felt offended. "Is it because I'm a girl?" I asked him. "No, because you're still going to be healing from other injuries. You don't need more," he replied. I held Soda's hand. "I'll be fine, it takes more than a few Socs and my parents to beat me down," I told him.
