As morning rolled around the sound of rain hitting the windows woke me. It was a hard rain, so it wasn't exactly peaceful. I left the warmth of my bed and got ready.Walking down the hallways in the morning will never get old. The paintings, the gothic architecture, the way the light hits the floor, all mesmerizing.
As I approached Papa's room, I heard rusting from inside. I knocked on his door, "Papa, may I come in?" He opened the door, his sleeves rolled up and hair messy, "Yes, come, come." I stepped into the messy room and turned back to him as he shut the door, "What happened?"
"Nothing, y/n. Don't worry. I've just been busy." he replied. I began to pick up wads of paper off the floor, "Is something going on?" I asked. He looked at me surprised, "Did you forget?" I shrugged, "I guess so."
"The ritual is today." he informed. My eyes widened, "Shit. You're right." He began to help me pick up the paper on the floor. "Oh, Papa you don't need to do that." I reassured. He continued, "Nonsense, I want to help you, my dear." I blushed at his words, but stayed strong, "Really Papa, you should rest before the ritual."
He sighed in defeat, "Fine, fine. If you insist." Papa sat down at his desk, grabbing a brush and fixing his hair. "What will you be wearing tonight?" he asked. "Oh, should I dress up for the occasion?" I questioned. "I suggest you do, yes." he nodded. "Well, I don't really have much formal attire." I said. He turned in his seat to face me, "Really? We must get you some then, cara."
After cleaning his room we went to the dining room for breakfast. "Good morning everyone." Papa said as he entered the room. I followed in behind him, but bumped into him as he stopped abruptly. "Sorry." I apologized. He took my hand, "Don't worry my dear. I didn't warn you. Come, let us sit."
The ghouls served us our plates and sat down. We began eating the delicious breakfast Mountain had prepared when Papa stroke up a conversation.
"Ghoulettes, do you have any spare formal attire our y/n could wear tonight?" The ghoulettes looked up, "Of course, Papa." I looked down at my plate embarrassed.
"Will the masquerade ball be held after?" Sodo asked. "Of course. Sister Imperator insisted on it." Papa answered. "A masquerade ball?" I questioned, looking up at the ghouls. "Yeah! We have one every few months." Aether exclaimed. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I've never been to something like that.
"Y/n, we should find you something to wear." Cirrus patted my thigh. I nodded, pushing my chair back and standing up. Papa looked up at me, "I'm excited to see what you end up wearing, mi tesoro." I blushed, "I'll see you then, Papa."
Cirrus and Cumulus took me arm in arm and guided me to their room. "Why's Papa doing this?" I questioned. "Beats me. He hasn't done this before." Cirrus shrugged as she looked through a wardrobe. Cumulus was digging through a drawer, throwing random garments onto the bed behind her.
"So, what are the masquerade balls like?" I asked, not wanting to sit in awkward silence. "They're amazing." Cirrus sighed happily. "It's your typical ball. You'll dress elegantly and dance with your crushes and what-not." Cumulus said in bored tone. Cirrus pulled out a black button up shirt paired with a long black skirt.
"Hm... It needs something else." Cirrus tapped the chin of her mask. She set the clothes down on the bed beside Cumulus's pile of undergarments. "Would you want to wear something like lace?" Cumulus asked. "Oh, uhm, sure?" I shrugged. Cirrus pulled out a long blazer, "This is it." She grabbed the skirt and shirt off the bed and ushered me into the small bathroom that was attached to their room.
"Try it on!" she said. I nodded, "Right. Yeah." I closed the door and began to undress. The shirt was loose and felt like silk, the skirt had a lovely lace design at the bottom and was amazing to spin in. The blazer went down just above my kneecaps.
I walked out of the bathroom and was greeted with compliments from the two ghoulettes. "Gosh, you look stunning." Cumulus said with enthusiasm in her voice. Cirrus went to the wardrobe again and pulled out a black crow masquerade mask. "We should get some accessories on you too!" Cirrus said.
After what seemed like forever, they were finally finished playing dress up. "You'll be the star of the ball." Cumulus cupped my cheeks. Cirrus patted her shoulder causing Cumulus to move out of the way. "Now go on and find the rest of the ghouls, we need to get dressed then we'll join you." Cirrus said walking me to the door.
I waved them goodbye and went on my way. The ghouls were all out front in lovely accented suits. Mountain approached me first, "My Satan, y/n you look absolutely stunning." I shrugged, "It's all thanks to Cirrus and Cumulus." Sunshine gave me a nod which was the most she had interacted with me in a while.
After the others gave their compliments, Cumulus and Cirrus finally met us outside. "Come on we've got a ritual to attend."
