JIMIN POV
The car was quiet on the way home.
Jimin kept a close eye on Jungkook, the omega staring silently out the window.
"We did what we could, jungkook," Joon said from the front.
"We told him the truth."
"It's up to him what he does with that information."
"He disowned me," jungkook said dully. "He wouldn't even listen to what I had to say."
"That's not unusual," Jimin said gently.
"Denial can be a pretty strong instinctive reaction."
"I'm sorry, we should have prepared you better for that."
"I was so worried he already knew that it never occurred to me that he just wouldn't believe any of it."
"He can't hide from reality forever." Joon said darkly. "It has a way of catching up with you."
"Isn't that the truth,"jimin replied settling an arm around Jungkook's shoulders.
The omega stiffened and pulled away.
Jimin let his arm fall, hiding a sigh.
"He might still come around, He has a way to contact us if and when he decides to."
"Maybe, once he's had some time to process this, he'll reach out."
"He won't," Jungkook said, his voice flat.
"You heard him,he disowned me."
"It's been a while coming."
"Since the moment my first bond didn't take, I guess I always thought he loved me in spite of how broken I was."
"Now I think maybe he didn't love me at all, just loved what I could have done for the pack."
"I wish that bond had worked."
"Then none of this would have ever happened."
Jimin wouldn't let himself feel hurt.
What Jungkook was expressing was understandable.
There was nothing desirable about how their bond had happened but while he didn't like how it had happened, he wasn't unhappy it had happened or unhappy with the results.
The baby in jungkook's belly was very much wanted.
"I know."
"It doesn't seem fair, does it?"
"All that you had to go through and for what?"
Jungkook laid his head against the window and didn't reply.
Eventually, his eyes slipped closed.
Jimin hoped he was sleeping while he could.
Soon, the shock would wear off and all those feelings swirling underneath would be fighting their way to the top.
He'd be there, he'd do what he could but he couldn't feel them for Jungkook.
The omega had to do that all by himself.
Jungkook was still quiet when they walked back to the guest wing.
"Why don't I make us something to eat?" Jimin said. "And then we can sit together and talk or just relax, maybe watch some TV?"
Jungkook slowed to a stop and turned to him. "Actually, I'd really like to be alone."
Jimin hesitated. "Are you sure that's a good idea? You've just been through a shock."
"Maybe it would be better—"
"I want to be alone."
He had never heard him use quite that tone of voice before.
But the omega was being very clear about his choices and Jimin had promised to respect them.
"Sure, If that's what you want."
"You know where to find me if you need me, okay?"
"Yeah." Jungkook's voice was so toneless, so empty of emotion, that it didn't sit right with Jimin.
He didn't want to leave, his alpha instincts screaming at him to stay close to his distressed mate but Jungkook was asking him to go and Jimin wouldn't force his presence on the omega.
He left Jungkook at the door to the guest wing, turning around and heading to the main kitchen for some coffee.
The kitchen was empty to his relief, so he sat and drank in silence, mulling over everything.
"I thought you'd be with Jungkook." Joon said as he walked in, hobi on his heels carrying a sleepy Aidan.
"I would be but he asked for space so, I'm giving him space."
"You don't look happy about it,"hobi commented.
"I am very far from happy right now."
"Nothing has felt right since the moment we got back into the car My leopard is pacing under my skin like there's a danger, a threat but I can't see it."
"We weren't followed home if that's what you're worried about."
"I know, It's not that."
"Are you worried Jungkook might leave, go home to his pack?"
"No, his grandfather burned that bridge."
The problem seemed just beyond his grasp except for the fact that it centered on Jungkook.
The feeling of wrongness surged and he jumped to his feet almost knocking over the chair in his haste.
"I need to check on him."
He was gone before they could reply, taking the stairs two at a time and running down the corridor toward the guest wing.
He threw the door open, wincing when it banged against the wall.
"Jungkook?" he called, checking the living room first before moving toward the bedroom.
He found Jungkook lying in bed, curled up on his side, his back to the door.
"I know you wanted to be alone, but I was worried."
"How are you—"
Jungkook choked out a sobbed breath and moaned in pain.
At the same moment, Jimin scented blood.
"Jungkook?"
He vaulted easily across the bed, crouching so he could see the omega's face.
Jungkook's face was scrunched in pain and another sob escaped his lips.
"It hurts," he ground out, his hands wrapped tightly around his stomach.
Jimin pulled the blanket back, spying the blood staining the omega's sweatpants.
"Oh no."
He pulled out his phone and called Joon, giving him a concise explanation.
Then he bundled Jungkook up in the blankets and raced outside with him.
Joon was waiting at the door with Tae.
"Max is bringing the car around."
Tae said. "He'll drive, I'll call ahead and let the hospital know we're coming."
Jungkook cried out, the sound muffled against Jimin's chest.
"Shh, it's okay." Jimin told him.
"Just hold on, okay? Just hold on."
The truth was a hard pill to swallow but he could see it in Joon's eyes, in the look on Tae's face and he could hear it in Jungkook's heartbreaking cries.
They were losing this baby.
