Derek and Spencer had been married for almost a year, dating for three before they got engaged. They had been friends for almost 5 years prior, and they had never gotten into an argument.

Sure, they have had disagreements or sometimes they would be so mad at one another they wouldn't talk for a day or two, but nothing that had either one contemplating wether they should be together at all.

Almost 10 years of knowing each-other and it took one simple mistake to rock the boat of their relationship.

Spencer fell asleep during sex, and while it shouldn't have effected Derek the way he did, but it made him so irrationally hurt and angry he didn't know how to handle it.

Things had been a little tense between the two since they caught their most recent unsub. They were too busy with the case to spend any quality time with one another, so they thought maybe if they spent the night in bed together things would go back to normal.

Spencer didn't seem to be as into it as Derek did, but he was still reciprocating like he always did, making sure things were going as good for Derek as they were for him.

Still, they weren't even even halfway through when Spencer fell asleep. Derek tried to wake him, but he was out like a light.

It made the older man so angry, but Derek couldn't figure out why. So he got up and took a shower, before sleeping on the couch.

The next morning Derek could still feel the lingering confusion and anger swirling around inside of him, only now it was accompanied by an overwhelming amount of hurt and embarrassment.

He just couldn't stop thinking about why Spencer had fallen asleep. Was he seriously that bored? Was he not attracted to Derek anymore? Was Derek not putting in as much effort as usual?

All of these thoughts kept him up most of the night, but they got worse when Spencer came down to the living room that next morning, confused as to why Derek didn't sleep in their bed.

He didn't even mention the night before, didn't so much as make a comment about it, and Derek wondered if he even remembered falling asleep at all.

It hurt more than it should have, and the last thing Derek wanted was to be reminded of it, so he didn't even bother being as affectionate towards his husband as he usually was.

Usually, Derek would have Spencer's coffee and breakfast made before the younger man was awake and would shower him with soft kisses until they were ready to eat together. He and Spencer would look at each-other lovingly over the kitchen table, laughing at whatever witty joke Derek would come up with.

They were a very affectionate couple, even in public. Derek's love language towards Spencer was physical touch and words of affection, which he used every chance he got. While Spencer was more reserved and liked to keep their work and private lives seperate, he too would still kiss Derek's cheek as they passed each other at work, or he would sometimes leave Derek little notes on his computer when the older man wasn't near.

Today though, Derek couldn't bring himself to be as loving. He still made Spencer's breakfast and sat with him while they ate, but he didn't engage in conversation like he normally would, and ignored the painfully awkward silence.

The drive to work was even more painful than breakfast. Usually, they would talk to their hearts content, savouring their last bit of alone time just the two of them before they had to go to work and spend the day catching murders.

But today, Derek didn't wait for Spencer to get ready like he normally would. The second he put his shoes on he grabbed his bad and headed to the car, quick to turn the radio on to give him something to focus on.
