You looked down at the cardboard box.
"Open it." Said James.
You did as told. Inside was a few VHS tapes one stacked neatly on top of the other and a letter. You weren't sure which to see first but you felt your hand going towards the closed envelope. You didn't open it, unsure of what to think. There was no address. No address to be mailed to, no addressed to be returned to. You looked at the back.
"To my dearest daughter." It read.
You placed it back and went to the VHS tapes. Each one had a number. There were three in total.
"Want to play the tapes?" James asked breaking the silence.
"We can't. We have a DVD player." You mumbled.
"I have a VHS player. Come on." He said getting up and walking up the stairs. You carried the box and followed.
You both sat down on his king sized bed.
"Which one do you want to play first?" He asked. You examined the tapes one by one.
"This one." You answered handing him the VHS with the number 1.
"Alright. Let's see what is in it." He sighed.
The video began to play. There was a woman sitting on the bench of a grand piano.
"Hey, sweetheart how are you? So you're eighteen now huh? Happy birthday!" She smiled. You couldn't help but smile back.
"That's my mom." You whispered in awe.
"Yup. She was a beautiful woman." James smiled glancing at you.
"You have her eyes." He complimented."And her hair color." You added.
"What about my dad?" You asked."Maybe you have his personality?" James suggested.
"Maybe." You mumbled. You looked back to the TV to see her hands come in contact with the piano. You knew the composition almost immediately.
"Turkish March by Mozart." You whispered.
"I'm guessing you got your piano skills from her?" Chuckled James.
"Yeah. I guess so." You smiled.
The woman continued played but stopped for a moment before placing her hand on her stomach.
"What's wrong?" Someone asked in the background.
"Mom the baby. It kicked." She laughed.
"The baby kicked!" She smiled. You stared at how happy she looked. Why would she give you away?
"Now, June don't get too attached to it. You know what has to happened." The background voice warned.
"Yes, mother." The teenage girl sighed. The television showed nothing but static meaning the video ended.
"Want to put the next video?" James asked.
"Yeah." You eagerly smiled.
The setting was different. It was at a doctor's office. Your mom was laying on a bed.
"Ok, June the jell would be cold but it'll only be a minute." The male doctor warned placing the device on top of her stomach.
June let out a hiss as she held on to the white sheet. The camera zoomed in on the monitor. There was a small human-like figure in it.
"There's your baby, June! Right there!" The doctor pointed out.
"Is it healthy?" June asked.
"So far everything looks normal." He smiled. Then his smile grew.
"Do you want to know the sex of your baby?" He asked. June's eyes went wide with joy.
