Rufus POV

"My name was almost Meg" The little girl told told Tagoe

"Cool I was almost aborted" Tagoe said back to her

"Penny!" A woman screamed happily

"Mommy!" She ran and hugged her

"Don't ever run off like that again

"But I got the picture signed by the one you said was cute" the kid told her mom and she looked at Malcolm signature and blushed

"Thank you" She said and took the poster

"We really appreciate helping us out" The guy next to her said

"So you guys are mom and dad?" I asked looking up and down at a the guy

"No mom and mom's best friend, My name Mateo" He introduced himself

"And I'm Lidia" She giggled and she was shaken up a bit

"Okay got the kid's mom? Great, Get your asses on stage now" Francis told us not looking away from his phone

"We have 40 minutes left, You guys want to watch from backstage?" I asked as we all stood up

"Yes!" Lidia screamed and coughed and took a deep breath

"I mean yes we would love too" Lidia giggled

"Great" I said as we walked on stage and finished setting up

The stage lights went down and the curtains went up, The crowd erupted in a roar

"Okay let's fucking go!" I screamed as the music started to play and the screams got even louder

June, 12, 2022

Mateo POV

"Isn't he amazing?" Lidia squealed as she danced along

Rufus started off singing his most popular song about his unrequited love from high school and moved on to singing about his first love.

I remember this song was huge when we were in our senior year.

"Yeah he's really talented" I said as I watched him

I felt my phone vibrate and picked it up to see it was a number I didn't recognize but the caller ID was from my school.

Summer break had just a week ago and I knew I passed all my classes with my lowest grade being a B+ so I had no clue why they were calling me.

"Hello?" I answered and stepped away trying to find a quieter place

"Hello Timothy I'm Andrea Donahue have some important information for you" My counselor Mrs. Donahue told me

"Oh I'm sorry Mrs. Donahue my name isn't Timothy" I corrected her

There was a paused as I heard her clicked on what I'm assuming is her laptop

"Mateo?" She questioned

"Yes" I answered her

"Okay well I have some important news for you" She said again

"Okay" I said to show I was listening

"With your current GPA and your major qualified to join an advance journalism class which can connect you to publishers and news stations" She told me and I could still heard the loud typing which makes me think she had me on speaker phone

"Oh that's great, What do I have to do?" I asked her and sat down on a random chair

"You need to interview someone or multiple people about their career and write at least an 8 page essay of what they do and your opinion about what they say and do" She answered with her typing becoming louser

"Okay, who do I submit to?" I asked looking down at my feet

"I'll send you the email to the advance journalism hall and you have until July 31 of July" She told me

"I only have 8 weeks?" I asked and jumped out of my chair

"Ah huh, There are only 8 spots lefts so good luck" She told me and ended the class

I looked down at my phone in disbelief and shoved my phone back into the back of my pocket and walked back to Lidia and Penny who were dancing and lip syncing to the songs.

The concert finished up and they headed backstage

"You guys were amazing" Lidia clapped and Penny nodded

"Thanks, need a ride home?" The Tagoe asked us

"In your tour bus?" Lidia asked wide eyed

"Yeah, were staying another night here anyways so it's fine" Malcolm added

"Thats sounds great, Thank you" I thanked them as we headed to their tour bus

The hand crew finished packing up and we started moving, Lidia was talking to Malcolm while Penny was eating fruit snacks.

"Water?" A voice behind me said and I looked to see it was Rufus and he sat next to me

"Oh hey thanks" I said and took the water and he placed one arm around me

"Had fun?" he asked me

"Yeah it was great, You were really good" I told him

"Aw thanks, What's your name again?" He asked me

"Mateo" I answered

"Cool, So what do you do?" Rufus asked

"I'm in college now, I'm getting my degree in journalism" I told him and took a sip of water

"Cool, Maybe one day you'll interview me one day" He said and leaned closer to me which made my face feel hot

"Home!" Penny screamed loudly seeing our apartment buildings

"Thank you again" I told him and picked up Penny and we walked out, We waved the bus goodbye as they drove away and walked inside our apartment

"I'm gonna go tuck her in" Lidia told me took Penny from my arms and walked her into her room which was a small closet in Lidia's room

I pulled the mattress from the couch and grabbed a blanket and laid down.

I fell asleep thinking about ideas I should write for my essay.

Getting into that advanced journalism class would change my entire future and I knew I had to do something big.

I just had to figure out what that big thing would be.
