Red Oak cemetery, fall 2002

It's two years later, so Kate is now eight years old

It's a gray and rainy day. The scene is at the Red Oak cemetery just outside of Red Oak and towards Mill Haven. Most of the mourners have either left or are headed for their vehicles only two figures are left at the grave of the deceased. A tall male figure is wearing a long olive-drab rancher's overcoat and is wearing a matching wide-brim cowboy-like hat. The much smaller female figure beside him is wearing a long black dress and black overcoat which matches her medium-length dark hair.

"Your father was a good man, Kate." Jonah begins, followed by a long pause. "Some people say even a hero." He pauses a little longer. "The eye-witnesses said the shooter was going to shoot a pregnant woman and her little girl..." he pauses in mid-sentence as Kate begins to cry. Jonah continues "...but your father stepped in between them and took both bullets."

Kate cries openly now "I know." She reaches over and takes hold of Jonah's hand and says "Please don't ever let go."

The song by Tenth Avenue North "By Your Side" plays

And I'll be by your side wherever you fall

In the dead of night whenever you call

And please don't fight these hands that are holding you

My hands are holding you

Here at my side wherever you fall

In the dead of night whenever you call

And please don't fight these hands that are holding you

My hands are holding you

Here at my side, my hands are holding you

Ohhh...
